Of the true freshmen, it sure would be nice to be able to RS Kohl, Pattison, Hansen, Surges, and Same. Obviously Rocco would have to play a ton to RS Kohl, so that probably won't happen. The rest I would think we should be able to RS though.

I rather play them if they think they are able to play and worry about getting better recruits in upcoming classes and helps with recruiting if you can say you will not redshirt your first year.

I agree. Play them if they are good enough to play. With the free transfer and NIL, we need to keep the good ones engaged here as Cyclones.

If they would only play a couple snaps a game and want to redshirt, go ahead and redshirt them. But if they are good enough to play 20% or so snaps, play them. Even if they are a 100% special teams starter only, they should play.

Almost no one redshirts at key positions anymore. I hate it but its the reality of the transfer portal. For that reason alone - along with several others of course - I don't even coaches.

Both Colorado and Texas State won by taking in over 50 new kids and basically over hauling their rosters.
Michigan State had a great season a couple years ago by doing the same.

The days of the majority of kids accepting redshirts seems to be over. Especially at skilled positions. So its great to track but the current rules say a decent number will go if they think they have offers. Which is great for them, less great for the programs.

Until we have a bell cow, I see Hansen playing. Patton is such a solid athlete. I feel like this staff’s selling point is “we will play you as a freshman if you produce.”

Would love 4 full high quality years of both guys, but I understand if they keep playing this season.

We arent seeing that much of Harris, so the only pro i could see is giving him the Hansen snaps and see what he’s got. With Norton’s health in question though we likely will need them both either way.

- Fr, So, and Jr classes all with 5 players not to redshirt (once Noel plays TCU)
- Tampa is the lone Senior not to redshirt

I would say Becht, Onyedim, Bonifas, Miller, Verdon, Bacon and Sanders are good players who all have used redshirts, and have a good chance to make good use of their extra year. I could see them all staying here as well.

Surges may be the type you're referring to. If he can contribute, let him play rather than shut him down. I could see that.
