I officiated a Madrid game this year and they are coached pretty well.

I had them week 1 - they were solid but I didn't think they'd go undefeated.

If anyone is following Class A, next week AC/GC takes on Madrid. Both teams are 10-0, both Head Coaches played together for Madrid in the late 2000's, are good friends, and both come from the coaching tree of HOF coach Randy Hinkle both played on State Championship games (both teams got 2nd), and I believe that both played for National Championships in college.
Madrid Head Coach Brock Hinkle is Randy's son and AC/GC Head Coach Cody Mathewson and AC/GC Assistant Coach, Kurt Mathewson is Cody's father and was one of Randy's Assistant Coaches.
THAT is why Friday Night Lights in Iowa is such a great time of year.

I've had an ACGC game the last couple years (none this year), and Hinkle is a much nicer guy than Mathewson (and our Madrid game was a 1 point outcome, so not like they were just nice and respectful because they were winning). Mathewson just seems like because he won a small college natty & sniffed the NFL he's better than everyone else.

Should be a good game tonight!

4A: Bondurant-Glenwood
3A: Webster City-Creston
3A: Mount Vernon-Williamsburg
2A: West Lyon-Spirit Lake
1A: Regina-MFL
1A: Dike-Grundy (Grundy won 7-6 in week 1)
A: Madrid-ACGC
A: West Hancock-Wapsie
These two games intrigue me....
4A: Bondurant-Glenwood
3A: Webster City-Creston

Creston is #1, but Webster City has a beast running game. I think the weather being nice favors creston , because WC wants to make it ugly.

Bondurant is without two of their best players for the rest of the year (two of the best players in the state including an ISU recruit), so their offense and Defense have completely been affected the past couple games. Giving the edge to Glenwood here, but Bondurant IMO is the best team in 4A if those two players are suited.

In class A, there are truly only ever about a handful of teams that are potential state finalists. Some districts have one slightly better than average team and 4-5 awful teams. The slightly better team looks good until the playoffs and then gets exposed.

Generally look at the roster, if they have a large roster, they will be more competitive. Not perfect but generally true.

If you think that kid is an ISU recruit I've got some ocean front property in Waukee to sell you.

you don't think Titus Cram is an ISU recruit? Interesting...didn't realize that.

He is/was def on Iowa State radar.. I'm not sure how hot that trail is currently but they were in on him early and often.

A little bizarre he hasn't committed anywhere but he's got plenty of time, obviously.

Don't know Cody but know his dad. He is pretty down to earth but is extremely competitive but good people.

Bettendorf was up 14-0 on Centennial at Half and the Jaguars have scored 28 unanswered
