Kick catch interference? You can't call a fair catch if you kick the ball into the ground and it bounces? That's the whole point of an onside kick?

OSU is Tech's Super Bowl? Lol Going for it on 4th down on your own 35 then kicking an onside in the 1st quarter? Sounds like now it was kick catch interference.

Right! Why wouldn't every hands team on an onside kick just signal for fair catch then? Is that really the rule?

No the rule is, once it bounces off the ground, you CANNOT call a fair catch. This is why onside kicks are the way they are.
"
  1. If ball hits ground or is touched by member of kicking team in flight, fair catch signal is off and all rules for a kicked ball apply."
You can call one for a "pooch" kick, since it is kicked straight in the air. Was a kicker in HS football in Texas.

Right? Or else it would be impossible to recover an onside kick

Smart play by the OSU player. What an awful rule though.

6-4-1-f:

During a free kick a player of the receiving team in position to receive the ball has the same kick-catch and fair-catch protection whether the ball is kicked directly off the tee or is immediately driven to the ground, strikes the ground once and goes into the air in the manner of the ball kicked directly off the tee.
