Jay Leno has a test drive of the new 2022 Lucid Air Dream up on Jay Leno's Garage. Lucid is a new auto startup out of Arizona. They are set to deliver about 500 vehicles this year with a ~$95,000 price tag. That's still a pretty hefty price point, but should be interesting to see how they compete against Tesla. They have designed their own "miniature" electric motors.

Also, an interesting comment from the Lucid exec during the test drive...Ford is now selling a "crate" electric motor. I wonder if that will spur some interesting retrofits, like the one below...

They have a lot of potential. They have poached some of the best engineers from Tesla and other companies. Their production facilities will continue to improve. The plant in Casa Grande is huge and rolling cars off. Once they start production of their cheaper model to directly compete with Tesla on price things could get interesting.

Peter Rawlinson is my hero. CEO and Chief Engineer of Lucid. He was Tesla's top engineer for years even though Musk disputes it. He wants to take Tesla down!

Shouldn't 9 and 10 be reversed. Actually, 8 and 10 are a tie.

When will production begin?

They are already producing the Lucid Air. Planning on starting production on a model next year that is more in the $70k range. They say they have a 4-year goal of producing a $25k car.
