8-4, I think our defense is going to come out shakey, but will improve itself under Skladany, and finish the season very strong going 4-0. I think Toledo will be a very tough game, but our offense will give us the win.

I think the Hawks will nip us in Kinnick, and Texas will take care of us on the road Via both Young and Charles.

I see our team being very pumped up for the Nebraska game and it will be alot like the Iowa game last year.

Oklahoma, with Peterson, will take care of us, and Texas Tech should be a good game, probably an offensive shootout with 2 very good passing teams, but since I dont see this team going 9-3, I have to give us this loss.

After that we tear up the rest of the North divison and end the season on a very high note, and play for the Big 12 championship against the winner of the Red River Shootout.

Since Iowa State has never played on a stage like the big 12 championship, it hard for me to pick them to win, especially since it will be against probably either Texas or OU.

So I would say we will be 8-5 going into the bowl selection, and we will get into the Alamo Bowl.

Of course I am a very optimistic, but what does everyone else think???

I agree with your picks with one exception. I fear that the Nebraska game will not go our way. NU will have a big chip on their shoulder about the way we've played them recently ("how could Iowa State possibly stay close to Nebraska???").

I just seeing our team being very pumped up for this game, but Nebraska probably should be as well. I just give us the advantage because it is in Ames, and like I said, I am very optimistic!

I see this season as anywhere from 5-7 to 9-3. I think that there are 3 games that will decide our season: TXTECH, IOWA, and NE. all others besides TX, and OU are games we should win and i will talk about them later. I think we can win all of the above 3. we could also lose all of them. I expect to win 2 of them, if i had to choose, i would choose to lose to Iowa. Obviously because that wont hurt our conference title hopes. If we do that, and dont lose any games we shouldnt then we will go 9-3. Heres how see it for those of you who didnt follow that.

Toledo, W

UNLV, W

Iowa, L

Texas, L

UNI, W

Nebraska, W

OU, L

TXTECH, W

Kansas, W

Kansas St., W

Colorado, W

Missouri, W

i have highlighted Iowa and Nebraska because those are the two closest games and could go either way. So i have us going 7-5, 8-4, 9-3. I chose 9-3 because thats what i want.
<

And if we lose those three games then we have the potential to lose two others and go 5-7. Of course we could just win all of the games and the bigXII championship and the national championship for an overall record of 11-0 and Bret Meyer will win the Heisman.

I don't get why everyone is so hung up on ISU loosing to Iowa. They aren't any better then thye were last year. I agree I would be less upset if we lost to Iowa and beat NU and TTU.

A questionable defensive line matched against a very good Albert Young, and to top it off playing the game at Kinnick! Look at Brent Blums article today on Cyclone Nation, it sums up alot!

If that happened..... I dunno what I'd do... I don't think my mind would be able to handle it. Might just explode.

SERIOUSLY, why is everyone so afraid of an Iowa team we beat by 20 last year? I really thought we would beat them last year despite their unrealistic top ten ranking and I feel like this year will be more of the same. Yes I do realize we need to plug some holes especially on the d-line. I just don't see that or anything else accounting for a 20 point swing. Don't forget Iowa also has their own holes to fill as well.

Toledo - W, Lost the best QB they ever had.

UNLV - W, Hopefully we have a comfortable lead by the 4th quarter to rest starters & test backups.

at Iowa - W, Typically overrated Hawk team.

at Texas - L, We HAVE played Texas very well in the past.

UNI - W, Hope somebody gets to ass plant that o-lineman we had that transferred there.

Nebraska - W, This could be the biggest game of the year and yes we can and will beat them.

at OU - L, Adrian Peterson scares the crap out of me.

TXTECH - W, At home with TT breaking in a new QB and RB I like our chances.

at Kansas St - W, 3 in a row against K State would be great.

Kansas - W, Revenge - I hope we make it very ugly.

at Colorado - W, They have good o-line, LBs, & Stephone Robinson but nothing else.

Missouri - W, Maybe since the last game this year isn't on Thanksgiving weekend will help?

I think we'll only lose one of the Texas/Oklahoma games. I don't know why but I have this feeling that we will. Also we'll find a way to choke against the Kansas/Missouri teams of the world. There's no way we'll lose against either Texas Tech or Nebraska. I know we'll come out fired up like we did against Iowa and Colorado last year. Iowa dosen't stand a chance. !0 - 2 heading into the Big 12 championship game a loss there puts us at 10 - 3 and the HOLIDAY Bowl!

Maybe they can keep a starting QB on the field for 4 quarters? That alone should be worth 10 points. Tate may be overrated but he'll put more than 3 points on the board. How 'bout home field advantage? Worth 6 points I'd say.

At the end of the day

Well if Tate would of been in for all 4 quarters, I dont think we would of held Iowa to just a field goal. I realize that no one wants to loose to Iowa ever, but this being a non conference game dosent even hold all that much significance in our goal of winning the North and Big 12. Iowa is going to be a very good team this year, they will have an expereinced defence, which they did not have last year, as well as an overrated, but very good QB and probably an all big 10 running back. If I was going to put money on this game, I would be very scared picking either way, but as it stands right now, I would have to go with Iowa.

lets remember how tate got hurt..he threw his second/third interception...he was playing like a little school boy(female dog) had he stayed in it might have been 35-3 with 6 ints...that being said iowa is going to be tough this year albert young will rush for over 1500 yrds but iowa is basically the same team as last year. ISU is going to have a potent offense and had we had berryman back we would have a stacked defensive line to go along with it our D-line is going to be a little shaky but i trust big play curvey and moorhead to pick up the slack it shoudl be a dog fight to the end and my pridiction is which ever team scores the most points when the final gun sounds will win

I'm pretty suprised as to how many people are really optimistic about this year. We have a very depleted defense. I'm wondering what this season will look like. here's my predictions.

08/31/06 Toledo Ames, Iowa W (1-0) -tough starter

Sat09/09/06 UNLV Ames, Iowa W (2-0)

Sat09/16/06 Iowa Iowa City, Iowa L (2-1) - because it is in IC

Sat09/23/06 Texas Austin, Texas L (2-2) - because it is Texas

Sat09/30/06 Northern Iowa Ames, Iowa W (3-2)

Sat10/07/06 Nebraska Ames, Iowa W (4-2) - big home win

Sat10/14/06 Oklahoma Norman, Okla. L (4-3) - crushing road loss

Sat10/21/06 Texas Tech Ames, Iowa L (4-4) - tough home loss

Sat10/28/06 Kansas State Manhattan, Kan. W (5-4) - new coach

Sat11/04/06 Kansas Ames, Iowa W (6-4)

Sat11/11/06 Colorado Boulder, Colo. W (7-4)

Sat11/18/06 Missouri Ames, Iowa W (8-4)

So I think we will finish with a regular season record of 7-5. I know this doesn't line up with the above prediction, but I also predict that we will piss one the last 4 down our leg.

If you go 8-4, you probably go to a bowl game we can then win - make it 9-4. Any bowl guesses at 8-4? We know it would not be the Houston Bowl.

Toledo- W 1-0

UNLV- W 2-0

Iowa- W 3-0 Tate Blows another game against the Clones

Texas- L 3-1

Northern Iowa- W 4-1

Nebraska- W 5-1 We get vengence for that game in Lincoln last year

Oklahoma- L 5-2

Texas Tech- W 6-2

Kansas State- W 7-2

Kansas- W 8-2

Colorado- W 9-2

Missouri W 10-2

This is my optomistic schedule, but it is possible. No game on this schedule is out of reach not even Texas or Oklahoma. With this record we would be i nthe Big XII championship and a darn good bowl. Of course you always have to leave a game or two margin for a couple Iowa State screw-ups.

Anyway you slice it, I am extremly optimistic about ISU football. This year will be 8-4 and nothing but good stuff for years to come. Sure we haven't been to a BCS bowl...YET, haven't won the Big 12 North...YET...and haven't won the Big 12...YET. But all those are within reach within the next 5 years. I went to school at ISU in the mid 80's...you wanna talk horrific. I remember being in the stands againt Oklahoma (Bosworth) and the Clones getting pulverised. We scored a field goal near the end of the game and the crowd nearly stormed the field (nevermind we lost 50 or 60 to 3!). Would I like to be playing on New Years Day every year, ABSOLUTELY but I have seen the improvements over the past 20 years and the football program has done a 180. Great job, keep it going!
