2/22-24 Winter Weather Thread

Damn, was hoping in being able to get back to Western Iowa to get the snowmobiles out and actually enjoy the snow.

I got the 824OE. I'm hopeful; Toro seems to have a pretty good reputation. The last one was a Sears Craftsman that never was all that reliable. Admittedly, I probably could have done a better job with the basic maintenance of it. There was at least one year where I forgot to empty the gas tank after the last snowfall.
I have a Craftsman 26" I think. It's been very reliable for 5 years now. Electric start if I choose to use it, which usually is just the first start of the year. The brake steering is awesome. I can churn through snow over the intake like nothing.

That being said, I friggin love my Toro personal-pace mower. Hit the base bolt on my basketball hoop and cracked the motor. I loved it so much I went and bought a used one that was slightly older and it still runs like new. Probably 15-20 years old.

And I think another one on deck for early next week as well. Awesome.

My snow moving bill is going to be high this year.
I can't imagine. I have been helping a buddy using his truck. He has paid me over $1,300 this year. We had 10 dump trucks hauling snow from the DSM US Bank locations for 14 hours yesterday alone.

Got my single stage snowblower finally running yesterday. Dang magneto had a bunch of surface rust on and I had it running back in November. Got it cleaned off and it started on the first crank! Also had to get more regular gas for my two-stage snowblower. Plain gas in a 3 gallon container for it , 50:1 oil/gas in another one (single stage snowblower), and a 40:1 oil/gas in another container (leaf blower and weedeater). Pain just trying to keep them all straight.

I wouldn't worry too much about gas/oil ratios that close together and just use one mixture for both machines. Or you could make a gallon of each and mix those together in one container to be really safe.

I had to buy a new two stage yesterday. Set me back about $850 for a Toro but it was going to cost almost $600 to repair the old one. So the bad news is that I'm broke, but the good news is that I won't have to shovel tomorrow or this weekend or the next storm or the next or the one after that...

Dang! That sucks! I got my MTD two stage and Toro CCR2500 off Facebook MarketPlace for $0. New front scraper, skids, fuel line with shutoff and carb for the two stager around $35. New plug and primer bulb for the Toro. Both look brand new. Hard to beat deals like that!

Oh geez that's terrible. I'll get a second drink at the beach bar for ya later in the week. If I really feel bad I'll get some fried lobster.

These weather threads are out pacing my brain. Hard to keep up as this one is happening before tonight's snow. Talk of others for next week. Feels like the Matrix for snow.

Looks like my efforts to clear snow a couple feet beyond the edge of my driveway and a few inches off the edges of the sidewalks will have been wise...and not nearly adequate.

Yeah. Right now I'm wondering where the garbage and recycling bins are going to go when it's time to set them out this week. Balanced precipitously on a heap of snow, I guess.

Me too. I’m going out for a nice little bike ride this afternoon and just going to think about what I would be doing if we’re in DSM. I mean don’t get me wrong I love watching HBO shows and jerking it all day but that only lasts for a couple weeks and the next thing you know you’re making Gatorade bottle meth in your garage.

What do you do for a living if you can do this all day and where do I sign up?

Most snow in February in twin cities history by the end of the week. neat.

Yes and WCCO just said 6-10 inches downtown MPLS tomorrow then snow Friday/Saturday/Sunday and then Tuesday and Thursday next week. We are gonna destroy that Feb record.

Thats the updated version of the one I have. I have yet to run out of power on mine. This past weekend, at the end of the driveway the drift as was tall as the hopper, it went right through in gear, you can tell it was a load but kept moving. It throws the snow a long distance too. Its a great machine.
I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on your first time using it tomorrow.

I could have just shoveled this morning and it would've been OK but I brought out the blower anyway. I like it. You're right; it does throw the snow a long way. Came in handy with the height of the drifts and piles already accumulating around my driveway. The joystick chute control is a nice feature. It runs noticeably quieter than my Craftsman. We'll see about durability and reliability but it made a pretty good first impression.

That's stupid. I was going to come down to Ames from Waterloo to enjoy a birthday song and Hickory Park. Doesn't look like that's happening now.
