Did Tanner earn the spot at 174? or with it being so close has it not been decided? any talk about England trying for the 165 spot? i think those two back to back could be pretty solid for us.

Tanner won the wrestle-off 4-2. Given how close it was I would guess whoever does better at Harold Nichols this weekend will get the spot, but I don't have any inside info on that. We wrestle Old Dominion on November 25th and I doubt we'll know for sure until then.

With the current weight cutting rules though whoever goes to 165 would need to have started already if they are going to make it in time for the Iowa dual.

This is how I see our lineup right now, with for sure guys in bold, likely normal, and questionable in italics:
125: Finch
133: Meeks (really sounds like they are pulling his redshirt)
141: Goettl
149: Mayfield (sounds like they might pull Moreno's redshirt and put him here, I hope they don't)
157: Trent Weatherman (Molina is fighting hard for the spot as well)
165: Mike Moreno (will have to defend it against Tanner/England in a few weeks)
174: Tanner Weatherman (not sure if England is out of the picture here)
184: Beard
197: Shafer
(until Gadsen is back, and he might even keep the spot then. Nobody knows how Gadsen will be after the injuries)
HWT: Gibson

You may not know how Gadson will be after the injuries but the coaches have him PEN in at 197 once they decide to let him wrestle, which will probably be the Old Dominion meet. If he doesn't re-injure his shoulders, he will be in on the stand (fairly high) in DM. Yes, if Trent and Tanner place higher at the Harold Nichols they will have earned the spot and I'm sure you will see England start cutting to 165. If Molina or England place higher then they will have the spot for at least the Old Dom meet.

I'm not counting Gadsen out - if he can keep his shoulders healthy and live up to his potential he'll be a huge, huge, huge part of the team for the next 4 years as well as a big point getter for us at nationals. But Shaffer is a multi-year starter so until Gadsen takes the spot from him and wrestles a few live matches I think you have to consider 197 his.

Schaffer has filed in the 184/197 spots while people have been hurt. We really havn't had a servicable 197lber since Jake graduated. If Schaffer wants the spot he will need to find some offense and quit rolling on his back.

If Gadsen can't stay healthy I'd consider Shaffer to be a guy who'll probably qualify for NCAAs but go 1-2 or 0-2 depending on his draw, basically similar to his season at 184 two years ago. Last year he was a 184 pounder wrestling up a weight class, this year he's actually a 197 pounder. If Gadsen is as good as advertised I'd expect him to AA or make R12 at the very least.
