    2025 field work

By the time we dry out from this week we won't be "early" in the planting season any more. Once again, the biggest window for "ideal" conditions may have been the earliest one.

Williams & Blum: Two big recruiting wins for Iowa State, sensitive Matt Rhule

Totally agree with the guys when they point out that if you're going to lean hard into the "We're the Big Ten" baloney you have to back it up quickly. Part of it is that you have to say it out of expectation, but you're shortening your own leash. I'm glad the portal craziness has cooled. That...

    2025 field work

I have some field prep done, but haven't turned a wheel yet with the planters. There's still a lot of NH3 tanks out in the country in my area. We got a good half inch of rain on Wednesday morning but conditions since haven't helped dry things out much. Looks like next weekend before we get back...

    ***2025 UFL Season Thread***

Is Fox pumping crowd noise into the broadcasts this year? It sounds like Mike Tysons Punchout on NES.

I'm digging the Incredibles vibe. Seems pretty intentional by Disney.

Williams & Blum: Recapping a crazy 10 days

Anybody else think it's kinda gross that people want to make a big point of Brent being paid to have to do all this? I'm sure he'd be happy if all of this was unnecessary.

Those of us that remember the 1988 crop know. 6 weeks of no rain in the summer left you with 40 bu/ac corn that year. Now, that same spell of weather might still permit 175+ bu/ac.

NIL - Is It What You Expected / Specific Changes Needed

This is exactly the kind of regulation that requires an antitrust exemption and players organization to negotiate. The NCAA would have to have a law passed first in Congress that gives them full control over the money generated by college sports, and once that happens, everything falls into...

Williams & Blum: Recapping a crazy 10 days

I'm actually relieved there's an effort in Congress to do something. And I almost never say that. The thing that I think is interesting is that an antitrust exemption for an entity managing aspects of college sports will go well beyond making deals on player compensation. That's where getting it...

    Today I Learned Thread

Had a knee scope done a month ago. Zero recovery time required. Walked out of the hospital under my own power and never needed crutches, resuming full workload for the most part after two days of taking it easy during conference basketball tourney week. It's incredible how much one's prognosis...

Official "WTF is Wrong With You?" Thread

We don't screen the backgrounds of high school teachers very much, if at all in some cases. I wonder how much of this stuff could be prevented. If there's ever a headline about child exploitation anymore it's always a teacher or a pastor.

    Hy-Vee's weirdest business decision yet?

Now that they aren't 24 hour stores, (Covid aftermath?) they just leave stocking carts all over the place. Overnights used to be a good job at a HyVee, IMO. The 3 am crowd was interesting to say the least.
