I could be wrong, but I think he was a starting corner for the 2013 season opener and after that his playing time steadily declined. There was never much of an explanation offered.

I believe you are correct. He was in at the end of each half against Texa$ last year, and his coverage was actually excellent, but Wally was going away from what had worked on defense all game and it showed.

That's my philosophy too. Go away from what works before the opponent figures out how to counter it. Then they're always off balance. Strategery.

He played at IC West; definitely had the athletic ability so it was a red flag that the hometown Hawkeyes didn't go after him.

My thoughts exactly. You don't not recruit a kid with his athletic ability that is right in your own town unless there are some red flags. Which I'm sure Iowa coaches have plenty of inside contacts at the IC schools so there was probably very little that went on there that they didn't know about. Combine that with his silent departure from ISU and I don't think it is outlandish to assume there have probably been some character issues.

He was another example of inexplicable personnel management. He started game one, played well and then was a nickleback the rest of the way. He should have been kept at corner and we would have had two pretty good ones there.

I had heard that Douglas and he didn't get along but I don't know if that's true.

I'm sure he had issues with redshirting when we could have been playing, and was probably told he needed it. Then Tribune comes in and starts as a true freshman. I don't know a thing about what it was like in Douglas' room, but I can imagine that Rogers wasn't too happy about that. He just oozed potential and I thought he actually played well when he was in. It absolutely cannot be only performance-based and measurables when I think about how teams have exploited Richardson at the corner opposite Tribune. It seems fairly obvious that Douglas had some beef with him of some sort and Rogers couldn't get out of the doghouse. It's a waste and one of many examples as to why we are 5-18 in past couple of years, and perhaps even historically bad. Too much attrition for a team with such a thin margin for error. We can't just re-load the next guy like a Top25 program. In most cases, on our teams the #1 guy is pretty much quite a bit better than the #2, and in many cases, just a different kind of athlete. Rogers had all the tools and we cannot seem to work with him. Maybe his attitude was horrible and Rhoads told him to clean it up. Who knows? Whatever it was, it sure is a waste of talent, and unfotunately, a familiar story.
