Exhaustion is key. Our caveman ancestors tackled large animals to survive. You’d need to spend the first hour just harassing the gorilla before even thinking about inflicting any damage. 100 real men with an organized attack- this is no contest.

I’m on team 100 men (but it probably depends on the men fighting honestly).

Gorillas are stronger and faster, but humans have better stamina, intelligence, and numbers in this scenario.

I’m also assuming this fight is in an arena of some sort, not the wild. And the conditions of the fight, is the fight is not over until one side dies.

People are are underestimating the resolve of men under those circumstances. History of war has shown men will continue to fight through unimaginable atrocities in scenarios like this.

Humans are always very arrogant about being able to overcome all other species. Even ape experts will always show all that "human superiority" bias.
Remember, these are the same humans who think they can time a shark attack just right and punch it on the nose even though punching underwater is extremely slow. Or think they can beat a bear, lion, wolf, etc.

It depends if the other 99 men run off after the gorilla tears the head and nut sack off of the first man
This is part of my rationale for the silverback. The first group of guys going in would have to know they're going to get brutalized and get their faces ripped off and killed. Who's going to volunteer for that mission?

Starting to think about the bear attack scene in Revenant.
Leo did have a gun though.

Arena matters,

If a gorilla can strike and retreat to a tree to recoup, give me the gorilla.

If it's a small area with no hiding places and it's a kill or be killed scenario, I'll take the 100 men. Enough force going at the legs of a gorilla should be able to get it off its feet. Once that happens, time and fatigue will tip the scales.

In either scenario, there will be some grisly deaths

This makes me want to see this be an actual event.

Let's throw grizzly bears in there.

No, wait, a MAMA grizzly bear with cubs around.

Let's make reality TV frfr.
I read this as MMA grizzly and couldn't figure out who was training bears for MMA

It would definitely be rough. But men should theoretically be tactical about it. You send maybe 6 guys at the legs and another 3 or 4 for the face to take out his eyes. And keep going in waves.

Once the gorilla loses an eye or is taken off his feet. It’s over.

That's the part I can't get past. Those first 6 are going to get brutalized. I've watched plenty of LivePD in my day and hell, four cops trying to subdue a single meth head is a battle that can take a while. I can't see 6 initial dudes getting control of a silverback's legs and getting it down.

That’s cause the cops aren’t trying to kill the meth head. They’re just trying to restrain him.

The initial 6 guys probably wouldn’t, but it would for sure fatigue him.

If anyone has taken a boxing class, and actually there are many wrestlers here who could relate, you would understand how taxing it is to use your full force on a punch/kick/swing etc. To do that 50x over would completely exhaust a human.

And that is for humans, who have exponentially better stamina than a gorilla. A gorilla would have to do that at least 100x over, plus bite, evade, dodge attacks from all sides. I actually don’t think the fight would even be close. The gorilla would be dead in the third wave of my proposal.
