Castillo will be alot better than people expect next year. If he can hold the weight for a couple years we might actually be good at 125. Which we haven't been able to say since what, Andrew Long(uhhhh) was here?
Castillo is so small I have a hard time seeing him outgrow 125. My biggest concern is he isn’t big enough for 125 the next 2 years. Some of these 125 guys are big.

I guess my point was I know he’s got the potential to be a very high AA and the talent already. I just hope he’s big enough but that might take a year or two to get there. He’s a stud though.

Seems like we are putting a lot of stock into the Euton vs Caliendo match. He did battle hard and showed very good defense. He did loose to Hunter earlier in the year 8-3. His Redshirt win he goes 10-3.

He’s definitely a qualifier now. But I don’t think we can assume he can AA based on his current body of work.
To be fair, being optimistic about a guy who has potential and hasn’t yet had many opportunities is exciting. Rather than recruiting over the kid, give him more opportunities to develop and prove it. Not every kid is PJ Duke or Marcus blaze. Guys who were unproven at one point eventually get their opportunity and turn a corner. Caliendo could’ve been a nobody if he hadn’t first gone to North Dakota and gotten an opportunity to gain confidence and prove himself.

Chris Bono had a losing record his freshman year. Then went 5th,1st, and 2nd. Barry Weldon had similar results. Hard work & self motivation has a lot to do with it. Frosts are the same type. I am hearing Euton is for real.
Nobody was recruiting Mesenbrink, he went to cal Baptist. He eventually had his breakout at the end of his senior year in high school and now look at him. A lot can be made of getting the opportunity to prove it and just wanting it. Like you said, being motivated can take kids with talent a long ways when they get their shot and coaches believe in them.

I’ve heard from multiple people Castillo handles all the kids in the room at 125 and will be the guy there next season. He’s a U17 World Finalist & 2X Super 32 Champ. I think our only real need at this point is going to be 157, especially if Ech & Paniro go 141/149 next season. That’d only leave K Naak for 157.

When Dresser brings Garvin in we riot!

Our coaches are trying to improve our roster year round. What I respect about this staff is nothing is given. If Euton is the better wrestler he will be varsity. Not that complicated. Development doesn’t have to happen on varsity. No one should be static for 3-4 years to see if a kid grows into an AA.

Not that I'm against bringing in Garvin, but it's not that simple. Loyalty to a recruit that you believe in and allowing them an opportunity can help future recruiting. Waving money at anyone that could be a slight improvement.. that could work against the culture you want. I'm not saying you hand guys the position.. competition is fine.. but I think there's a line you cross where it might do more harm than good.
