Does anyone use (successfully) a VPN service with MLB.TV. I have never really used a VPN other than turning on or off the VPN by Google that is free and installed on my phone by Google. I don't even really know what the benefits are of Google offering that to me. Anyway...I have heard that using a VPN might allow me to get more out of my MLB.TV service. If anyone does use a VPN in this way...could you recommend a VPN service to me? I don't want to pay for the greatest service out there as you already know what I would like to use it for. Any other benefits of it would likely be over my head? Thanks!

I use HotSpot Shield as it comes as a “free” add on with a subscription I have with a password management solution. I’ve used it successfully with MLB.tv in previous years. Pretty easy to set up and use.

Not sure if it's the best, but I used Express VPN last year for the Twins in Iowa. If you have an appletv it's just an app you download, sign in and then turn on the VPN. Think with roku or firesticks, there is more of a setup, but could be wrong. Twins finally stream in Iowa, so haven't tried it this year.

I used PrivateVPN for two years to watch STL in DSM using the MLB.TV app. However, last year that seemed to have some issues. Not sure if it was the VPN or MLB wising up.

I've been told FanDuel is now offering their own streaming service with no blackouts through Amazon. I haven't cared enough to try, though.

I used Nordvpn last year. Think it was like $12ish bucks a month. Worked pretty well

Freaked out a bit when first using Nordvpn because i couldn’t get the cubs game to work… but then i realized its cause it automatically pinged my computer to Chicago at first…. ‍Sent it to Salt Lake City next and never had a problem with it once!

Thanks for the suggestions/reassurances...I will give one of them a shot and see what I can figure out. I get the White Sox games free over the air in Cedar Rapids...but I would like to get the rest of the Midwest teams as well.

Another question about VPNs...I know they have a purpose...and some swear by using VPNs...but why doesn't everyone use them other than cost? I mean...are there drawbacks to using a VPN? I don't want to waste money...but I am tempted to dive in and give one of these a shot. I am going to steer clear of the free ones...

Assume that they are saving and selling everything you do. Worse than your ISP? Possibly.

I haven’t looked into the fanduel thing through prime. Though I’ve seen ads for both the royals and the cardinals. You might check that out. It’s the same price as MLB.TV ($20/month) and supposedly has no blackouts so you would save on the VPN.

Though I’m not sure if the $20/month gets you all teams or just one team.

NordVPN has been breached in the past and has been caught not following their “no logs ever” rule/marketing.

They do have the largest selection of servers I believe and they are pretty fast for streaming. But can’t trust them after that and I say that as someone that was a Nord customer for 7-8 years.

I use Mullvad. Completely anonymous, including payments. Can even send them cash in the mail for ultimate privacy if you wanted. Never had issues with server speeds.

I haven’t specifically tried MLB.TV so I can’t say at the moment if it’ll stream well but I’ve never had issues with other streaming services.

I mean for me, I use it for the purpose of the MLB blackouts or if I need to use some sort of public wifi like at an airport or something. Are they still probably selling our info like another poster said? Probably but it definitely has its uses.
