I was in a musical rut lately - I have a wide variety of genres I enjoy, but I find myself listening to the same few types while I work or do things. Rolling Stone published an updated version of their "Top 500 Albums of All TIme" a few years ago - a friend had listened to the whole old list, so I decided to listen to the updated list. I started at 500, and am only to 476, but there are a wide variety of music genres. I find myself still liking the same basic ones primarily (indie, rap/hip hop, classic rock, jazz, early punk), and disliking the same (hard metal, country), but have found some exceptions.

What are your musical tastes? What genres do you like and dislike?

I'll listen to pretty much anything but country. I really like classic rock, punk, rap/hip hop, but I also will listen to classical music and musicals like Hamilton and The Greatest Showman.

I call BS. It is well established that the rhythm is going to get you.

Pretty soon he'll be coming out of the dark on this one.

Just kidding - mine is close, I really dislike Amy Grant.

Mine is Alanis Morissette

I think there's something about early 90s pop, especially women. There was this broad earnestness that just didn't fit the time. It became grating.

All over the place, mostly consisting of music from about 2005 and before (haven't really kept up).

I went through a long stretch where I hated the 80's (music that I listened to growing up), but I've come back to it. Favorite era is probably the 70's. Overall, there's a huge range. Southern Rock, Metal, Grunge, Country, you name it. More and more into Motown too as I get older

Katy Perry is right up there for me among least favorite. She is so contrived, self-promoting, and phony. Can't stand her.

About the only genres I struggle with are death metal, really electronic music, and jazz. I can appreciate all of them, but I won't ever select them over other options.

In general, my music choice depends on my mood. Sometimes a good pop hook hits the spot. Other times, I crave rap, something nostalgic from my youth, punk, acoustic singer/songwriter, classical, etc

While I'm cooking, I'll get extremely random with my Alexa requests. "Play harpsichord music" was a recent fun one.

When my daughter emerges from her room and asks "What are you listening to?" in that condescending teen twang, I know I've done my parental duty.

I listen to all different genres. Except country which is intensely awful. It’s the vocal sound of country songs and dullness of the music.

I'm a bit like this with Lady Gaga.

They're both very talented and adding all of the 'stuff' isn't necessary.

Primarily country, 2008ish and older. But also just about anything from the 90’s and early 2000’s I enjoy.

Except that hard screamo rock ****. Seriously, why are you angry all the time?

I still love Garbage, LOVE the Cranberries, and one of my favorites of all time is Natalie Merchant solo and with 10k. She is crazy talented.

90s pop and country are my comfort music
But the majority of my music collection is independent musicians and dudes/ladies who play guitar and/or piano.
