I went to Buzzard Billy's and had the crawfish platter and a couple of Des Moines IPAs. I'm going to be fat as a pig by the time football season rolls around! Man, am I enjoying checking out the Des Moines food scene.

Let's Go State!

Remembered this from the other thread - did you get food while you were there?
I did! I was there for lunch and had the grilled brisket and cheese with bourbon bbq sauce. Tasted good with my Des Moines IPAs!

Don't let people who hate their own lives bring you down. Des Moines has some great food options. From someone who moved away for 4 years, I couldn't be happier to be back!

If you were cycrazy you’d hate your life too. Trust me.

We were in Des Moines recently and had a chance to try St. Kilda.

It's not a big plate piled with comfort food kind of place, but the food was outstanding. The owner had 5 cafes in NYC before moving to Des Moines and it shows in the quality of the food. Definitely worth a try if you want something a little unique.

Yeah...a little more high brow than Buzzard's or Iowa Tap. They just opened a 2nd location in the Temple for the Performing Arts Building (where Starbucks used to be before they moved downtown the block). Also recently opened a Surf and Turf restaurant in the East Village so he is up to 3 now. https://www.stkildasurfturf.com/

Checked out Simons on Franklin based on your other thread and it was outstanding. Owner definitely adds a personal touch.
Red Velvet cake was out of this world.

Yes, Simon's is really good, but it is tiny. Not unusual to see a line of 20+ waiting outside for the doors to open at 5:00pm.

If I recall correctly, the owner was in his young 20's when he purchased this restaurant (used to be called J Benjamin's) and took it over. He is very visible and often stops by tables to be sure you are satisfied with you meal.

Never had “Australian style” food before.

Might have to give this a shot if the opportunity arises

Not even sure what Australian Food is, and I have been to Australia! lol. Perhaps Beef lasagna or Meat Pies?
