Why do refs hate Cam?

I think some of his fouls are all appearances. He has a tendency to go all out and look out of control so it gives the look of a foul. Combine that with the speed of the game and I think that accounts for some of them at least.

He’s not descrete or smooth with his physicality. He’s a wrecking ball.

Jacobsen is the opposite. He’s creating just as much contact as cam is with the opponent, but he does so in a way that isn’t so obvious.

Cams just needs to mature as a player and he can get there.

There's some truth to this. Be physical with your body, not your arms. But I do think Cam gets at least a foul a game that other players don't get.

This. College officials do research on individuals they officiate and look for trends (fouling, travelling, flops, etc.). Lard got a reputation of being a foul machine so officials anticipate his fouls.

It’s like a self fulfilling prophecy now. Even if he cleans his game up the refs belief that he fouls a lot is a product of their belief that he fouls a lot. What is he to do?

You don’t understand basketball, or officiating.

The third guy off the bench doesn’t have a known reputation with any officials, nor is there a “camspiracy”. He isn’t Dreymond Green.

He gets called for fouls because, and this may shock you to hear, he’s typically fouling. Are there some birderline ones? Absolutely, as are there borderline calls against every other guy that plays in the paint in college basketball.

But he’s getting called more often because he’s committing obvious fouls, still needs to develop his game defensively enough to get away with as much as others do, and is kinda wreckless at times, which will typically draw attention from the officials.

There was a foul called on cam against kansas st that was absolutely inexcusable. The shotclock was down to 1 or 2 and cam was standing straight up with his hands straight up and just before the shot clock expires they call a foul on him. I rewound it 4 or 5 times and he did absolutely nothing.

I feel for Cam. At some level, the refs won’t even let the guy play basketball. Not that he doesn’t have his share of real fouls, but man, some of the **** he is called for has to be so frustrating for him.
I feel like he's past being frustrated with it. The other day he just went and sat down calm, like he just expects the bs calls now.

Heard this comment made by an announcer in another game that this happens a lot in games.

You are about 30% right. If you go back and watch his fouls, you will see he is out of control about 30%, making a pretty good play, but getting a foul about 50% of the time and getting absolute headshakers or precalls about 20% of the time. Every game has has at least 1 "he's a fouler" call from the refs. No doubt about it.

I do think some of the calls against him are BS, but another huge factor... he has a reputation as an aggressive shot blocker and is scouted as such. Opposing players are coached to go into his body and arms and create contact on the shot.

Unless he got him with the body that I couldn't see on the replay, I didn't see any contact at all on the And-1 foul he got called for on the fastbreak yesterday.

But yea, he gets his share of legit fouls but gets at least 1 total ghost call each game.
