This looks awesome! Jordan Peele is a big emerging name in the horror community. Good relationship with the Blumhouse group too.

Pretty jacked for this. Get Out had a very strong message about racial cultures between blacks and whites and this one seems blatantly obvious from the trailer as well, but that’s part of what made Get Out so fantastic. This one seems a bit heavy handed based on the fact you can immediately identify it from the trailer, but I don’t personally have a problem with it. I’ll give Jordan Peele the benefit of the doubt every single time.

Peele actually says this one won't be about race.
“[It was] very important for me to have a black family at the center of a horror film,” Peele said. “But it’s also important to note this movie, unlike Get Out, is not about race. It is, instead, about something that I feel has become an undeniable truth: the simple fact that we are our own worst enemies.”

Fun fact: Get Out is listed as a comedy on HBO. I know this because my wife put it on one night and she is not a fan of horror at all.

We both loved the movie, and there were some funny moments, but I think HBO wiffed on that genre characterization.

I guess I’ll have to wait to see it. From the trailer I see:

-a black upper class family
-the dad having to explain the history of a hip hop song to his son
-a beach vacation where all of the friends are rich white tropes (“sounds like Vodka time to me!” “Oh, he bought a boat!” [insert obnoxious white rich dude in a boat])
-the family trying to kill them is a carbon copy of them

Just sounds like a metaphor for black people in America thinking they have to forget their roots and appropriate themselves to white culture in order to be seen from the outside as successful.

Either way, message or not, it looks fantastic.

I think it was nominated as such with the Oscars as well. I think comedy and horror are in the same category.

Technically, they say comedy stimulates the same part of the brain as horror does. Maybe explains how well Peele has been able to transition so well.

I mean, I laughed when the dude got a croquet ball to the side of the head, so there's that.

I find it interesting when some movies are listed as comedies. While Get Out might have some comedic elements, I don't consider the overall theme to be a comedy.

It's opposite Tucker and Dale vs Evil. I consider it a comedy that has some horror elements.

See I think it could be the fact that, its ok to live "white". Like you're not less black if you live a life of privilege. That being successful and enjoying that success doesn't mean you've turned your back on your culture. Maybe this other family sees them as sell outs or something along those lines. I can definitely see some kind of struggle between who they feel like they are and who they feel like they are supposed to be. Who knows, like you said, it looks interesting either way, Peele killed it with Get Out, no reason to doubt this will be just as good, even if it were just a "normal" horror film.

I could see that as well and it would make sense. Or maybe I’m just reading too much into a trailer. A message wouldn’t make it bad. Hell, Night of the Living Dead (and most Romero zombie films) had a heavy political/race message. Either way all I know is Peele has helped breathe a desperate breath of life into a struggling horror landscape these last few years.

Now Pink Floyd's Us and Them is stuck in head.

"Us" lead to "Us us us" which lead to "Us us us and them them them" = earworm time
