I feel like adding an effective changeup or curveball to his arsenal would work, but evidently his entire life his coaches have said "Nope, that fast ball is good enough."

And no, I don't think his slider counts as a second pitch. The only reason it was "effective" at any point in his career is because everyones waiting on a 100 mph heater

If he could develop any sink or run on his fastball it would be devastating again. Look at the soft contact that Hendricks got out of his fastball last season, and it was only 86-89 max.

Also, I think he tips his slider and is much easier to lay off than it used to be.

Cubs gained a game on the Nationals this week. Nationals play at Houston and host the Mets this week. As I said last week, if the Cubs can gain about 3 games every two weeks on the Nationals, they can move ahead and get homefield in the NLDS.

Once this team gets healthy down the stretch the moves they made at the deadline should hopefully pay off in much needed experienced depth on the roster. Just seems like this team has been waiting to be firing on all cylinders at some point and hopefully going into the playoffs with a well rested roster that is pitching and hitting up to their capabilities.

Would really like to see a 5-1 or at least 4-2 record this week. Cubs have been playing at about a .667 win percentage since the break, keep that up and they should pull away from the Brewers and Cards over the next few weeks.

I agree we need to start pushing to get some space.... Saw a state on Saturday that Blue Jays and Cubs have the best winning % since the All-Star Break. That also adds optimism with the sweep over another team that is in the process of heating up....

That has to be excluding the Dodgers, they are like 52-10 in their last 62 games.

Yeah thats not right...The Dodgers, Cubs Nationals, Red Sox and Indians (in that order) have the best records since the break. Blue Jays are .500 since the break.

So it's turning out Avila was the far more important addition in the trade that brought Wilson over. Schwarber seems to be hitting better but it was looking like Contreras would be spending most of the playoffs in left field a couple weeks ago.

Wilson though has been an absolute disaster. If you look at his career stats, this seems to be a trend where he loses his ability to throw strikes over long periods of time. Hopefully he finds it before the playoffs because there are killer left handed bats on pretty much all teams the Cubs will face in the playoffs.

I must have miss read this, just saw it appear, but your comment on Blue jays being .500 is only partially right, as they were not .500 till the sweep

I was at the game on Sunday. Damn, that was fun. Wild finish (I was losing my mind after Javy scored), and the bleachers are still the best party in town. The beer towers that were going around, and the fans' efforts to play keep away from the ushers, were high-level entertainment.

Yeah I've been a bad fan...I haven't been to Wrigley since Randy Wells was pitching. Tried to get back to a game this year, but it never worked out.

Is it actually blacked out though? I don't see it on my guide anywhere. I think WOI and KCWI may just not have picked up the WGN Chicago broadcast.

It's supposed to be on MLB network but is blacked out there. It's also blacked out on all of the random Fox Sports channels in the 600's on DirecTV. Me angry.

Wtf this is blacked out even with it being an away game?
Being home or away does not matter. If youre in a teams network, you are blacked out on every game they play.

MLB blackouts are too force you to watch the local channel and pay for their advertising, not to fill the ball parks.
