It's Nice to be Both Ranked and Underrated

The best of both worlds here, folks. Even though I think we are better than, Memphis, LSU, West Virginia, etc, sitting at 25 fine.. Although. . . If we lose to TCU do we hold no 25?

We're definitely dropping out if we lose.

But this is still a nice spot to be in - the only game we'll be favored in the rest of the year is probably Baylor.

I would say around #25 is pretty fair...

Respectively...

Granted, we have played better the past month than in the first month. If we really want to prove it and move up, time to take care of business at home against TCU.

This is quite the opportunity for the program.

Enjoy it while it lasts... Either were out of the rankings next week or we take another Big 12 team out of playoff contention.

Not questioning you, but how in the **** is Purdue anywhere near the top 50? 19!?!?!?!

Close loss to Louisville and then losses to rather good teams in Michigan and Wisconsin.

Their wins have been pretty convincing, too, when they have had them.

That rating system uses point differential adjusted by strength of schedule... something like a Pythagorean win-loss record made into a rating system. Such rating systems do not care as much about W-L records, so that is why it would like a Purdue.

Close losses to good teams do not necessarily hurt you much in such a system. We could lose to TCU on Saturday and not lose much with this, too, for instance.

That Rutgers loss is ugly, though. Definitely agree with you there.

Probably mostly SoS thing at this point -- unless they keep crushing their mediocre schedule in the second half of the season, I would imagine they would slip pretty badly.

I doubt losing to a ranked opponent on the road takes them out of playoff contention.

Sarcasm or just your first college football season? :)

My favorite is that Ohio State has yet again an early season loss and if they win next week, will probably be a lock.

If they win out, they are 12-1 and Big Ten champions, with that one loss early in the season to a "quality" (i.e, traditional powerhouse) opponent.

If they do that, including rolling over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship, even I would have to admit they have the CV of a Top Four team.

Their blowout win in the B1G game in 2014 cemented what they had. I think it's interesting that it's setting up to be a similar scenario and I'd like to see what happens if/when they both win their conference champ. games with 1 loss.

The fact that this sentence can even be said in reference to ISU still leaves me with no words.
