Buddy's wedding in March was black tie at a ridiculous venue in Palm Springs, CA. It was quite the change up from my cousin's wedding two weeks prior in rural Iowa where I felt overdressed in a QZ and khakis.

I used to have to wear a tie everyday for work but last year around this time they changed it to a polo/QZ and it's been incredible

I moved 5 years ago into my current house and the ties are all still in storage so it's been a while. I also don't see a scenario where I do again. I'll throw on a sport coat with an open collar but that's about as far as I go. Khakis and polos/quarter zips at work.

Only time I wear ties anymore is funerals of family. All other funerals- jacket & slacks.

Time of thread is ironic because this morning I was looking in closet for spring jacket and noticed a suit, 2 sport coats and long wool top coat. All bought 15+ years ago and when I was 30lbs heavier. Time to take them to SVP or Goodwill.

Business attire.... First job out of ISU wore a suit & tie every day to work. The tie felt like a noose!! I remember the HUGE controversy when casual Fridays was being proposed. A lot of the traditionalists had a motto: "casual clothes, casual mind, casual work". The corporate world was going to HELL.

Little did we know within 5 years, business dress would be 100% casual. Sucked for the United Way- where I worked casual M-Th stickers were sold for $5 each.

Maybe it is just me, but I look the look of a blazer/sport coat with jeans.
I do as well. Its a little harder to do right than some people realize (they'll do something like wear a suit coat or jeans that don't really work with a sport coat), but when done well its a look that is comfortable and versatile for a lot of situations. I also have a soft spot for the look because my dad was an animal science professor and its a really common combination amongst that group.

When I retired I gave away all my ties except the novelty ones. Now I am thinking if I am a pallbearer someday would Mickey Mouse or Snoopy really be appropriate?
I have one Mickey tie where he is peeking out through a paisley print. It is clearly Mickey Mouse but a little more subtle.

40 decades? I'd love to see some of those ties from the 1600's.
Who needs ties when you've got collars like this:

How many suits do people own? I literally don’t have one and haven’t for probably a decade.

One of my first jobs out of college I wore a polo shirt. They told me I couldn’t wear a polo shirt so second day I wore a shirt and tie. Then somebody in charge told my boss “tell that surfer dude (I had kind of long hair at 23) he can’t wear a tie or we’ll all have to”. Seems like a contradiction to ban ties and polo shirts, need to allow one or the other but not tshirts.
Did you try wearing a golf shirt instead of a polo shirt?

I usually only wear a suit and tie when have to present something to a BOD.

I'm probably the most casual dresser you'll meet so it really pains me to wear the suit and tie.

It was very narrow, only long sleeved buttoned shirts with no ties. Khakis were ok and the norm.

Just weird how specific some companies are, glad I work from home. It's funny having moved from Chicago to LA things are so different, a lot of times the "boss" is tshirt/jeans or athletic wear and it filters down to entire company. I meet at giant media companies a lot and there will be a mix of business clothes and "wear whatever you want because we are creatives" types.

Five suits and 2 more blazers. But 3 of my olders suits were bought when I was a bit thinner so the pants don't fit. I wear slacks with them so they are really just more as blazers. I probably should buy another suit and clean some of those out of my closet. But you have to have some variety when you are wearing one just about every Sunday.

Probably 4 or 5 times a year. Occasionally go to places that require business formal attire, then the odd funeral or wedding.
For weddings I never wear a tie unless in the wedding party. Usually skip the suit/sport jacket too. A tie would be off or loose after so many drinks so what's the point.

Really?

When I see a guy wearing jeans and sport coat (usually on a flight) I think of a guy trying to look important but really isn't. I laugh every time I see that look.

The tie, I always thought you took your pants off after a couple drinks. Explains some stares from men and smiles from the women.
