How many of us Cyclone fans would have been okay with Prohm saying these types of things even the YEAR BEFORE he was canned? The answer is ZERO. Tang isn't a first year coach taking over a first-year-in-D1 program or taking over a team that was 2-22 the previous year. He has been the one in charge for a few years now & even took his team to the Elite 8. This over-praising of an opponent reeks of desperation & something a captain might say to reassure his passengers even though he knows the ship is sinking.
I don’t know what snapped to make him create spygate, but he has never been the same since. It's quite the meltdown to watch. At least Prohm went out pretty classy if I remember right.

It just doesn’t make sense what happened that night. It almost is it had a mental breakdown in the middle of a game, and he’s just a totally different person. Not that he was very likeable before that, but ever since it’s just been horrendous PR for him.

Prohm had embrassing results but did not make a fool of himself in terms of personal character and integrity.
this. he was universally liked by his players and the other coaches (maybe because they wanted to continue coaching against him). i promise you wont hear the other league coaches going out of their way to compliment tang and his program the way self and drew did for prohm as he was circling the drain. that turd can flush.

in all seriousness and i have said this before... i think there is some unknown mental illness that he is dealing with. he acts like a schizophrenic. maybe he is just awkwardly on the spectrum. something is off with his mental processing and behaviors.

They probably should start pooling that NIL money for something else. Per KC Star this summer:

It seems like they are stuck with him for at least this year plus 2, maybe 3 or 4. You just hate to see it.

The AD giving him that contract should be fired.

NIL broke Tang.

He's a pastor that has enough basketball IQ to coach a youth league team and is wholesomely interested in the development of young men.

He is out of his element when it comes to running a roster of guys earning 6 and 7 figures to go up against peers who have similar rosters.

The spygate thing and everything else that he does that seems so out of place is because he can't work out that the Big 12 isn't a rec league. A little heckling and some hostile crowd noise coupled with the pressure to win and his mind can't cope with it.

Just my opinion. The guy is absolutely fine mentally, but he is so massively out of his element that he doesn't understand the nature of his surroundings isn't some Pleasantville high school gym. NIL is the straw that broke the camel's back for a lot of coaches who were still trying to live in the 'student athletes going pro in something else' neverland. Add Tang to the pile of coaches that couldn't adapt.

This ain't intramural brother.

I wonder why he was an assistant at Baylor for so long (2003-2022) despite evidently wanting to be a head coach. Was he getting interviews and not getting the offer, or was someone saying to teams who were thinking about interviewing him "Hey yeah, about that guy..."? Or Option C?

Or schools thought, can we really have a coach with the name Tang and be taken seriously?
