Gas prices just went up $.30 in local stations. Christmas rush is the reason from petroleum suppliers. :puke::puke:

I don't even pay attention anymore. I need it, I buy it.
Yep. Inelastic demand - what are people gonna do, walk? Ride a bike?

The only reason I look at prices is because I regularly see differences of $0.30 between stations in town. But it's usually always the same ones that are cheapest so when I need gas I just go to the nearest cheap station.

Our Casey stores are usually a dime higher than the small owner gas station. I let a lot of my Hyvee fuel saver discounts for gas expire, because unless there is at least 10 cents on it, Casey's is more expenses

I have an aunt that always texts me before they come visit the big city of Des Moines (they live in eastern Iowa) to see what gas prices are out here. It's really annoying. After responding numerous times "I don't know, I pull up pump the gas and leave." I finally asked her why it matters, are they not going to come to Des Moines if gas is more expensive? I never got a reply.

Inelastic demand products are mother *******, man. I get by on the lucky side being in Ankeny with both generally cheap gas and abundant access to E15 (88 oct.) for another quarter or so off the gallon.

It varies in the same area I live so I pay attention if I can save a bit.

Costco is usually at least about 10 cents cheaper than regular stations, and one Kwik Trip may have $2.95 while one 2 miles away is at $2.63.

I have a KwikStar about half a block away, and a Casey’s down at the next intersection. Typically the KwikStar will change its price, and it takes Casey’s a day to adjust their price to match. It’s also crazy to me that KwikStar will change prices overnight by 30-35 cents a gallon sometimes, which seems like a huge jump to make instantaneously.

Then Casey’s on the other side of CR will be as much as 30 cents cheaper than my side of town.

25-ish years ago every gas station in town had the same price and moved in lockstep. Obviously that was colluding on the price, but sometimes I yearn for those days (since I apparently live on the more expensive side of town now, lol).

Handimart would keep their prices pretty much in lock step with all other stations in Cedar Rapids. There was little competition back then.

I try to hit gas when I am on the road at Love's. Almost always the cheapest one I drive by.

Costco is always cheaper. But I do the cost-benefit analysis in my head. Yes I can save $2.50. But I also have to wait 10-15mins for a pump. I usually don’t bother because I’d rather just be on my way.

In my case, Costco is 30 mins away. If I had one close and could stop in anytime when there wasn’t a wait, that would be different.
