They really should have just been a 21+ place that also sells food. Only other place you can get food and drinks is Welch Ave and BNC (i think)Es Tas last I heard lost their liquor license and is for sell.
It would be nice if Ames had other international options outside of Mexican, so many of those now.Dayton DQ is now a Mexican place.
Looks suspended to meI don’t think Es Tas fully lost their liquor license. They had a shorter probationary license. As was mentioned they tried out being categorized as a restuarant for lunch hours and had issues with underage drinkers. Believe it is being sold, but last I know still open.
Also Macubana and Cafe B.They really should have just been a 21+ place that also sells food. Only other place you can get food and drinks is Welch Ave and BNC (i think)
I will always love Es Tas for being like the only smoke free bar in Ames back in the day.Es Tas posted on their Instagram about their food special yesterday, so it seems they're still up and running.
Google agrees, and their website still looks fine.
I know they were before the city earlier this year and got a probationary 8-month license. Normal 12-month license was suspended/cancelled. Usually if there are more issues/violations they come to city council for a decision.Looks suspended to me

They must have gotten really lax about not carding or caring about fakes after covid. Only real place that had issues was Outlaws when I was in school. Es Tas is great, but not that big of a space and gets hard to move around. As I mentioned earlier ITT, Es Tas is for sale and will most likely be closing, if it hasn’t already. Too many underage drinking issues there.
Sucks really bad, as it was my favorite bar and always my last stop before heading home each night when I was in school.
We were in town for the Baylor game this year and decided to go one last time. It was dead AF on Friday night at midnight and there were cops everywhere inside, carding people.
We found it hilarious since we’re all 30ish and getting carded by cops but I guess that’s what happens when they let anyone with a fake ID inside.
Sad.
Somewhat agree. But you can’t have an 18 y/o in high school buying alcohol (even though we always found a way). It should be 19.I am in agreement that if you can serve your country, you can be served a beer.
Albeit, I did not drink until 21.
The Ankeny Mullets went into a brand new building...it looks like a first time restaurant went in there. The seating is split up, it has zero atmosphere, zero warmth. Its like it was only there for the rooftop which can only be enjoyed for about 6-7 months a year? Only got beer there so I can't say anything about the food but it was disappointing inside.Mullets hasn’t been good since full court press owned it. It’s wild to me that the Des Moines location is only open during the morning/early afternoon. The current ownership thinking they can franchise out amuses me. I don’t think Ames or Ankeny will make it. Norwalk will probably have the best chance since there isn’t much out that way, and its location.

That makes sense, but hey... here's your ability to buy a gun and make smart decisions with that. No beer though.Somewhat agree. But you can’t have an 18 y/o in high school buying alcohol (even though we always found a way). It should be 19.
That's because there were like only 100 of us to watch the gameFun fact for the younger crowd. Back in the early 1980's when the drinking age was 18, ISU allowed students to openly bring alcohol into the stadium and openly consume it. Heck bring in a full cooler of beer, that's cool. Not really tangent to the topic of this thread, but fun fact anyway.
