Stanford should provide a pretty good test for our guys on Friday. Below is my guess at Stanford's lineup:
125- Nico Provo #10 (however, he did not wrestle last weekend). Whether it is Grice or Meza, really good test for either guy right off the bat. If Provo goes, we will be underdogs here but I think an upset is possible.
133- Tyler Knox #23. Pretty talented redshirt freshman, was ranked 39th pound-for-pound and won Beast of the East. However, Frost should roll here. Looking for bonus points here.
141- Jack Consiglio. Don't know much about him, but he lost 7-4 to #32 Hayden Drury from UVU and beat the CSU Bakersfield kid 10-0. Not sure who we put out here, but if it is Redding, Swiderski, or big Frost, I expect a W.
149- Jaden Abas #12. Probably match of the dual here with two AAs squaring off. I like Ech to win, but Abas is tough and will be a good measuring stick for how Ech can handle bumping up a weight class.
157- Grigor Cholakyan. Don't know much about this him, but he had 2 pretty dominating wins against unranked guys from UVU and CSU. Assuming Kane Naak goes with Chittum and Paniro nursing injuries, I think it is a complete toss up. Excited to see how Kane looks as I have heard good things on him and the staff thinks he could be the real deal.
165- Hunter Garvin #3. Hunter will drop in the rankings after losing to Barraclough, but he's still a returning AA and a very tough match. Euton will be an underdog here, but he's a grinder and won't give up anything easy to Garvin.
174- Lorenzo Norman #18. He had 2 tech fall wins over unranked guys last weekend. Whether it is Riggins or Naak, we will be underdogs here. However, this is a great opportunity for them to get a ranked W and jump into the rankings.
184- Luke Duthie. Don't know much about him, but I am looking for Bockman to introduce himself to Cyclone nation and open it up. Love how he looked against Helgeson (who I think is pretty tough) and think he could be a steal from the transfer portal. Looking for bonus out of Evan.
197- Nick Stemmet #17. Great early season test for Carroll (assuming he is healthy after getting his bell rung against Hagerty). As Dresser said, Christian has the talent to beat anybody at this weight. I would put this match as a toss up, and if Carroll can get the W that will be a great sign for things to come this season from him.
Hwt- Jackson Mankowski. Split last weekend against unranked guys from UVU and CSU. I think very highly about Herrera and look for him to open it up here and start his Cyclone career off with a major.
So, my best guess for team score really depends on if Provo goes. If he does, I think the Cyclones win 6-7 matches and win the dual something like 21-12. If Provo doesn't go and we get a forfeit at 125, I have it at to 27-6. I'm just happy wrestling is back this week and looking forward to seeing the guys scrap again!
