I think there were three transfers that would have been clear upgrades at 165.

Hamiti - wanted to bump to 174 rather than staying at 165
Amine - lost out to Ok State, probably for some real cash
Barraclough - went back home to Utah, more than wrestling in that decision

It would have been nice to have one to fill in that spot, but beyond those three there wasn't someone who'd move the need more than seeing what Euton/Rojas can do IMO
You’re right, I hadn’t realized that there wasn’t much beyond those three in the portal this year. I’d throw Caleb Fish in there too but even he probably doesn’t move the needle a whole lot more than seeing what our guys can do. Plus he was an early commit so I don’t regret waiting and aiming higher.

I think Chittum goes 165#. Seems that a lot of his struggles were related to his weight cuts. Tournaments were tough, wrestled poorly day 2.

Could also potentially end up this way if chittum bumps, Osmany takes 125 and terukina is able to stay healthy at 133. His inability to stay healthy and have strong starts to season and always finish poorly seems to indicate he'd be healthier and able to finish a full season up a weight class, but that's a lot of conjecture.

125- Osmany/Grice
133- Kysen/Grice
141- E Frost/Redding/J Frost
149- Ech/Swid (RS)
157- Paniro
165- Chittum/Rojas
174- Gaitan
184- Bockman/Naak/Helgeson/Nando
197- Carroll/Bockman/Helgeson

Chittum’s weight has been discussed a lot with a bunch of varying hypotheses.

Some believe he doesn’t have the frame to bump up to 165, while others (potentially even including Durbin) feel he can.

I personally think he was OK from a gas tank perspective. At least from what I remember. He just let guys get to his legs a little too easily. He has the talent to work out of that against lesser opponents, but top 10 guys are going to take advantage of that position all day.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Lots of options at lots of weights. It will be fascinating to see how it all settles out. There's almost got to be a couple AA-capable dudes redshirting or in backup duty. A good problem to have, but there's going to be someone deserving of more matches thats going to be squeezed.
Even more than the talent, it's really impressive the culture Dresser has built where everyone seems to put the team ahead of their own interests.

IMO Kysen wasn't a big 125er. I think he got out horsed a few times. I'd bet he stays and fights for the 125 spot. If you flipped Osmany/Kysen I wouldn't be shocked. However, I also think Evan will make the cut to 133 so Jacob has the opportunity this year at 141. Next year both Frost brothers can bump if it's a tough pull for Evan.

Being twins is it automatic that Evan is the one cutting to 133? I figured they were basically the same size and Evan was better so he took the weight that would be open all year.

Pretty sure Evan has always been the “little” one. Wrestled lighter in high school and college thus far, although there are certainly very close in size.

Anyone know if Osmany will need a year to practice getting off bottom?

Look at 125 this next year, especially if Ayala is at 33. There are 5-6 pretty competitive guys there, but not many total hammers. Figs will be the number 1 guy & then put a few guys in a bag & pull a name out. kind of like last year. I don't know anything about Osmany, but if the rumors are true, he will be in the mix with any of the guys there.

Agree on kysen.

fwiw I've got

25 kysen/osmany
33 frosty
41 ech
49 johnson/swiderski
57 chit
65 dunno
74 gaitan
84 naak, bockman?
97 carroll
Hwt yonger

I know ech said moving up, but that was right after his first full folkstyle season of cutting, things change over the summer and 41 clearly makes the team thes best with the logjam at 49.

I don't know if it's automatic. IIRC regarding last year; neither 133 nor 141 was considered "open all year". Many posters on here (including insiders) thought that Grice was brought in to be the guy at 133. Most (including myself) thought Redding would be the guy at 141. I distinctly remember sitting next to the Frost parents during wrestle offs and being impressed on how both Evan & Jacob took control of their matches and won convincingly... I also remember the smiles and hugs from mom/dad. The whole family showed they were class acts all the way and didn't really cheer against the teammates. Grice and Redding also showed class and humility in handling the disappointing losses. We have some great depth and it just keeps getting better!

Honestly if it's a true toss up between osmany and kysen...what are we even doing? By all accounts it would seem that Osmany was brought in to be the man. And selfishly, I don't know if I can handle another season of Kysen.

125 could be Grice this year. The Cuban is big, I could see him at 133 and could Frost go up? He struggled to make 133, he is BIG. He will more than likely stay at 133, but it would be interesting if he went up, Ech went up with CS redshirting this year.
