Gotta get the Iowa monkey off their back. Do that and a whole new outlook opens up.

Until then..gonna be hard to convince people to go all in I would think.

In all other sports I completely disagree with people who say that, but wrestling is different. In Dressers 8th year theirs too much data now to argue what Iowa State is under him, talented enough to achieve big things but fades when it matter most and in March. That doesn't mean that it can't change, and I think this team could be the one to finally break through, but the proof is in the pudding at this moment right now.

Again Iowa is on a different level than us like it or not. Beating them would be nice, but... we gotta do better at nationals. David has done well but outside of that not having a single top 10 finish even is not good.

He told me 1, if I understood him correctly. Him and Yonger are going out together
I think he's got 2 years of elgibility left after this year (2021 covid, 2022 redshirt, 2023 unattached) but this would make sense.

Him and Yonger are tight and AE is 24 already, same as Yonger. Would make sense if those two finish out their degrees and move onto freestyle and their future careers rather that wrestling college at 26.

Your clock starts when enrolled full time. His unattached year counts as a year.

To quote Ric Flair "To be the man you gotta beat the man"

It's akin to ISU finally beating Iowa in football in 1998. It just changed the outlook and ISU started to turn things around after that.

ISU wrestling is not bad like ISU football was.

But as you say Wrestling is a different animal.

Yup - so COVID year (doesn't count), redshirt year (doesn't count), unattached year (counts). So this is his 2nd year of eligibility used, leaving two more if he wanted them I think.

Iowa 18, Iowa State 14 honest opinion

125: #21 Drake Ayala (IOWA) over #10 Kysen Terukina (ISU) (Dec 7-2) - kysen needs to get offense going

133: #20 Evan Frost (ISU) over #8 Brody Teske (IOWA) (Dec 8-1) - huge W

141: #1 Real Woods (IOWA) over #30 Anthony Echemendia (ISU) (SV-1 4-1) - no moral victories but i think we know where we stand

149: #13 Casey Swiderski (ISU) over #9 Victor Voinovich (IOWA) (Dec 6-3) - nice W but scored 2 TD in 1st - needed to push pace more as match went on

157: #2 Jared Franek (IOWA) over Cody Chittum (ISU) (Dec 4-2) - ROBBED

165: #2 David Carr (ISU) over #6 Mike Caliendo (IOWA) (MD 16-4) - needed the tech fall from Carr

174: Patrick Kennedy (IOWA) over #29 MJ Gaitan (ISU) (Dec 14-13) - what a comeback
this match easily could have been 5 for Iowa

184: #18 (174) Gabe Arnold (IOWA) over #6 Will Feldkamp (ISU) (Dec 3-2) - couldn't use his heigth/ Arnold just to strong

197: #26 Zach Glazier (IOWA) over #24 Julien Broderson (ISU) (Dec 7-3) looked over matched

285: #6 Yonger Bastida (ISU) over Bradley Hill (IOWA) (MD 17-6)- dominate

I’ve been to enough terrible duals where we couldn’t even compete with teams not even close to on the level of the hawks. I’ve also been to CyHawks in Ames where it’s mostly Iowa fans. Yesterday was electric and we had a blast despite the outcome. The competition in the room is bringing out the best in a lot of guys and it was there for the taking. Lessons are learned and adjustments will be made. Still going to be an awesome season as David’s last and we will enjoy the ride.

Page 25 NCAA Rules 2023-2024. If Cyclones are the host, why are we not doing this?

Hopefully this would take away from coaches reading referees expressions, and give more confidence in controversial calls being reversed.

Also, "announcing the outcome" should be done verbally over the mic by the official IMO.

These are things that CAN be controlled by hosting schools.

Unfortunate I will never live to see an Iowa State wrestling team beat the Hawks. I think I just need to stop paying attention to that dual and just hope we can place 3rd someday at nationals as that is the ceiling for this program. My dad told me we used to win nattys in this sport...
Honestly in todays day and age I would take 3rd every year. It will be incredibly hard to over take Penn State right now, and at least one other team will build their team thru the portal. We really only had one portal guy yesterday, two if you count E. They had portal at 33, 41, 49, 57, 65. They will continue to buy wrestlers when they need to.

Two, if this is the only dual you are paying attention to, then you are part of the problem. Support these coaches and kids every chance you get. There are no greater role model student athletes than these kids. The dedication, discipline and pure will is not matched with any other sport. The change that has taken place in our wrestling room is night and day, and is only get better. If you have season tickets and don't want to use them the rest of the year, I will buy them.

Don't get discouraged and stick it out, or jump off the bus.

The sad part of 174 is you won't see Kennedy in that poor of wrestling shape again. As he climbs the rankings getting this win would of been huge for seeds down the road.

I’m a casual fan. A few tough calls early on that didn’t bounce our way.

What stood out to me is the number for transfers that Iowa rolled out there in the middle weight classes. Teske (UNI/Penn St), Woods (Stanford), Voinovich (Ok St), Franek (NDSU), Caliendo (NDSU) were all in the mix. We have some promising young guys… Gaitan, Frost, Chittum, Swiderski who held their own and really battled.

I don’t know the NIL situation for wrestling, but Iowa is at that level where they attract some of the top talented transfers. There might be new names in this duel every year from here on out.

I like Dresser’s development model and I believe in him to lead us forward. Carr and Yonger have a shot for an another special year.

Right after Jackson took over, fellow Cylone fans told me how happy they were that the team was wrestling more aggressively than they were with Cael. A lot of people bought into that and buried their heads.
I think we all see how foolish that was.
Filling a team with ”talent” does nothing if you can’t coach fundamentals and improve the talent you get. I’m not burying my head.
