Why did you choose to go to ISU?

I will be honest, Iowa State was the only school that I got into. But it also has a very good HRI program, so I was happy about that. I am curious to see why everybody chose to go here, if they did.

Born and raised in Ames, where else could I go to get a better degree in Civil Engineering for the money??

Great idea for a thread!

I was actually a hawkeye fan (yes, I'm ashamed) before I went to Iowa State. The reason I went to Iowa State was for the engineering school.

Chalk up another civil engineer.

If you guys want to hear my story I will tell you why I chose Iowa State over Kansas, Texas and Alabama Birmingham. It's not boring but I want to make sure people want to hear real stories here. My heart goes for ISU for good and bad times because of the decisions I made to continue my education at Iowa State - it has nothing to do with cyclone sports.

I had these false ideas that I would become a mechanical engineer...Great campus, friends and the fact that my entire family were/are Hawk fans led me to the path of righteousness...Iowa State.

I didn't realize this board was so engineer-heavy. My answer is the same--

High quality College of Engineering + dirt cheap in-State tuition = ISU decision for me.

I'm from Ankeny myself. Not too far from Ames. Plus, I am a Civil Engineering student so I wanted to go to a good engineering school. Also, all of my family went to Iowa State.

because it was the best Civil Engineering program in the state that money could buy for a home town Ames kid like me

I am starting to think I should have went for Engineering. Look at all the free time you have to post during the work day.:wink0st:
I have an Ag. Bus. degree, but majored in girls and drinking.

I went because of Cyclone Basketball. That's it. I didn't even realize you could get an education too. I didn't finish there because my major was drinking, basketball and girls, in no particular order.

After growing up in a small town, I wanted to go to a "big" university to see if I could make it on my own (begin Mary Tyler Moore music here). I refused to be a Hawkeye because I was sick of the fanatical following in the North Iowa area. Parents convinced me in-state tuition was the way to go. That left Iowa State. I was still a little unsure my senior year of high school until Veishea riots broke out. Then I knew that Iowa State was the school for me.

I majored in Aerospace Engineering, and was looking at Princeton, Michigan, Kansas, Iowa State, and Embry Riddle. At the time, all of those programs (except ER) were in the nations top 10. The benefit of the others just didn't justify the cost difference. Plus, I was considering architecture at the time as well and ISU excelled in both programs. On top of that, they had a fantastic drumline.

JC, how many civil engineers are on this site? :biggrin9gp:

I also came for the Civil Engineering Program. I applied to both ISU and Iowa, and, coming from Eastern Iowa, probably would of gone to Iowa if they would have accpeted me. Damn good thing they denied me!!!

I have still got a few years, but I choose my major, Ag Engineering and spent some time looking around. But once I set foot on campus it was all over. Now I had visited ISU many of times but back then I didn't think I would be going to college here. I have been to a few other schools (Purdue, Wis, Iowa, Ill, Kentucky) and none of them come close to ISU's campus. I'm glad I made the right choice (Plus in-state tution helps :biggrin9gp:)
