It’s been a bummer week for Cyclone fans so I thought I’d share some positive news:
Watched Milan Momcilovic and his brother Lucca play in the Wisconsin Div. 2 state championship game tonight against Austin and Myles Herro (brothers of NBA player Tyler).

In short, we are getting a stud. At 6’8, Milan can shoot the 3, hit turn around jumpers, finish at the rim, very smooth, very skilled. Good rebounder. Has a great handle, can lead the break, and make the right pass. Hits FTs. Average to good defender. Patient player, positive court demeanor.
Same build and game as Grady Dicck. Don’t know if his skill will translate like Grady’s game did to the Big12, but this kid is the real deal.

BTW, Milan’s Pewaukee team won its third title in a row. Milan finished with an easy 29 points. You guys want TJ to add scorers— Momcilovic will score at the wing in Cardinal and Gold.

I really dislike the writing off of Eli King after he didn't make an immediate impact his freshman season. Williams/Stanz know more than I do, but Eli made the leap from a small high school to P6, is a great teammate, and he seems to have the physical tools necessary to play at this level.

I hope we're not at the point where if players don't earn immediate playing time they're run off, but maybe we are.

I dont think it’s that they’re writing him off as much as he didn’t get much PT this year, and if TJ wants to be great next year, he can’t promise El PT next year.

I would love it if Eli was open to continuing to develop and hoping to eventually get solid minutes at Iowa State. I also wouldn’t blame him if he wanted more than 2 minutes a game and went somewhere he could get more PT.

He looked good. 6’5 or 6’6 right now and can also shoot the 3. Obviously not as dominant as Milan, but I think he’s only a sophomore. Didn’t handle the ball as much, but his skill set looked good. Milan played center and Lucca played wing.

Naz Long didn't look like much his freshman year but developed into a solid player. Dunno that comparing Eli to him is the best example but if the kid has the skillset to develop and wants to hang around hope he makes a leap next year and finds a role.

Jake Sullivan made an immediate impact his freshman year but he made a big leap from freshman to sophomore year when he worked on getting his shot off quicker and not just being a spot up 3 point shooter. Some guys got through and adjustment period and those with the desire and work ethic to work on their game in the offseason can find ways to get on the court.

In this case, the guys running the message boards and doing podcasts are pretty connected to the head coach. So what they're saying may be less their opinion, and more what they're hearing from the staff.
Also there are a lot of podcast hosts who are great talent evaluators.. JJ Redick being one.

If that's the case, great. It would seem a joint decision.

If it is just opinion based on a guys playing time as a freshman, would rather not have that speculation. I am probably being idealistic, but would hope a college coach would be willing to give a player they recruited more than a year to develop.

I would be surprised if more than 9 players got significant minutes next year, so why give a kid the chance to mature and develop his game.

He definitely needs to improve quite a bit in the off season and work on getting a quicker release on his shot if he ever wants to play significant minutes at ISU. Right now his shot looks like a slower version of Lexi Donarski’s

Yeah, these guys are JJ Redick. And if the coaching staff is sharing this kind of info with these guys let’s just say that’s disappointing.

I guess when I said 'significant impact' I meant more leading the team in scoring or shooting. Since that is what everyone agrees we need next year. Another Kunc, Jacobsen, or even Burton doesn't help us improve in that area.
Am I missing a Burton or are you saying Deonte Burton wouldn’t help us?

LMAO he'd be such a huge player for this year's team. He'd be the best guy at scoring on their own and one of the best shooters.
Yeah I'm really struggling to understand the viewpoint of this super great athlete and shooter would be bad for this team, who lacks shooters and athletes
