Firing one of our most successful coaches after one bad year and one underperformance won't bring "hope" .

Nor would it help us when hiring the next guy (and retaining him if he has success).

I'd guess we would see a talent exodus for that decision as well.
What if we see a talent exodus anyhow?

And why didn't we see more usage of the transfer portal lately?

Which is why I am doing what I am doing.

If CMC does NOT have a different offensive coordinator next season, then he almost certainly will not have a different offensive philosophy or gameplan either. I predict he thinks he doesn't have to heed pressure from the ISU fanbase.

Which means your second sentence will almost certainly come into play.

I want CMC to do the right thing, fire Manning now. Today. If not then, the day our season ends.

If he doesn't, it shows how stubborn he is. And he'll just double down on the idiocy we've seen last year and this one, but pretend a healthy Brock will make all the difference. Except, it won't.

I don’t expect CMC will get rid of Manning. CMC is a LOT like KF in that way…. and other ways too.

It’s the same reason KF went back to Petras this week…. he will not be proven wrong by anyone. It’s why he did put Padilla in against tOSU at the worst possible time too…. he knew he would massively fail in that situation and he could say ‘I told you so’.

Same reason CMC laughed off Randy mentioning going under center when you only need a yard or less…. ‘don’t you dare question me’. Randy asks a lot of stupid questions, but that is a totally acceptable question…. but CMC won’t even acknowledge it. Makes him feel silly for even asking it.

Most of these coaches are arrogant elitist people….. it’s just who they are. You don’t question them, and you should actually feel bad for doing so. CMC is no different no matter how much you wish it to be true.

Sweet Sixteen run is only bested by Eustachy's Elite Eight one.

TJ doing that with that roster was insane.

McDermott had two NBA draftees on the same team and didn't make the tourney one year.

You can't possibly be so stupid. Last year was not our only Sweet 16. We've had better conference seasons along with Sweet 16's and better conference tournament results.

It was a great season, but again, it was not the second best season ever.

So he showed that he can, indeed, respond to obvious limitations.

Does that then mean CMC is the actual problem on offense?

I mean, it is hard to fire somebody that is doing almost exactly what you want them to do.

Because if that is the case, hooboy.

I will say my ISU text group went almost silent after the KSU loss.

Not the text group!!!!! We’re screwed! Fire Campbell!

That's a good breakdown. Venables is an ace of a defensive coach, and Manning was outclassed all game.

I think the big knock on Myers though is that the O line has gotten worse throughout the season. It also looks like it's a cluster where on multiple plays (according to Bruns) Simmons and Downing were just not blocking guys, look disinterested, and had the wrong assignment/technique. Not good.

I'm intrigued for Jake Remsburg RT next year. He was a stud in 2020 and a big piece in the Fiesta Bowl game. He doesn't look in game shape right now and is out of sorts. I think he can have a big bounceback because we have seen him play really well in the past.

If the OL is as awfully disfunctional as Bruns has described 8 games into the season, it's not going to get better, and it might get worse. What reason is there to not dismiss the OL coach now, or at least re-assign him to a non-coaching postion? Surely Campbell has a consultant-type in his contact list/Rolodex that he could bring in for the remaining season to try and straighten things out a little bit.

What? Your text group didn’t want to engage with you. I can’t imagine why.

Matt Campbell doesn't want the Texas Tech/Oklahoma/etc. offenses of scoring 45 and hoping to only give up 42. He shouldn't want that because we likely can't win playing that way. He wants us to give up 20 and score 24 by playing keep away from high octane offenses. Again...not good this year...but his track record is pretty damn good.

Long story short...Matt Campbell has had a pretty solid tenure at Iowa State and I would guess he knows a bit more about how he wants his program to look than some ass clowns on a message board. His way has yielded a program that isn't a national embarrassment so whatever he feels like doing should be a-ok with the fans.
Why can't we score 45 and allow 20?

If he only wants 24 points per game why did he allow Purdy to quarterback us to such prolific offense for 4 years?

Well, we are just Hawkeye trolls I guess for wanting to see Iowa State beat Norte Dame in a rare match up opportunity.

But here is what we got that game:

Fumble on punt return
Fumble
Punt
Field Goal
Downs
Field Goal
Punt
Punt
Field Goal
Punt
Downs
Punt

For some inexplicable reason the defense was overwhelmed this game too.....I am not sure why...physically outmatched there as well?
Like him or hate him Brian Kelley is one he'll of a coach.

Yes, I am well aware of that Dude. That same team almost lost to UNI and Kansas that year at home. If Purdy didn't make the heroic play, there was no bowl that season.
Well that’s not true considering we would’ve won 6 games right? I mean in 2018 without Manning we almost lost to Drake (surprised this hasn’t been brought up yet honestly) so it has to be a Campbell issue right? Probably should fire him..

I mean come on you cannot possibly look at these seasons in vacuums. You’ll go crazy.

I realize there was weirdness with the QB situation and it took until October to switch up the defense to be effective, but the further I get from the 2017 season and those receivers, the more I see that as a team that perhaps underachieved record-wise.
I love Kyle Kempt, but he was just okay. Honestly if Park wasn’t such a head case it’s a different season. That and our defense truly was completely different from October long as you said.

Last year is the only year for me where I was truly disappointed.

This is not a Steve Prohm situation either. Steve came into a great situation where CMC came into a garbage can.

I’m not dumb to say Matt deserves a lifetime contract but cmon, he deserves a ton of patience. It’s extremely rare for a coach to not have a year or two in their careers where they completely stink. This is Campbell’s first true year of that and that’s fine.

But that’s also not to say Matt can be stagnant. If last year wasn’t an eye opener, I hope this year is.

So what happens if CMC doesn't meaningfully change his staff after the season ends?

Curious, how bad do things have to get?

Disappointing 2021 followed up by a tragedy of 2022 where ISU wasted a championship effort by its defense.

Campbell will remain Iowa State Head Coach.

The upside of things possibly getting really bad is that you will leave.
