He keeps what he has though. In the current transfer climate, how impressive of him to keep a guy like Jorbo on his roster for 9 years!
Losing Fredrick and Nunge were huge blows though. Those guys didn't have any ties to Iowa before becoming Hawks and it wasn't hard for them to leave.
I think his methods are flawed. Every year it seems he throws his name into the basket of some of the top tier transfers and that’s just not going to work.

Fran painted himself in a corner years ago by not embracing the transfer market. Not only did he not embrace it, he openly bad mouthed it. He's late to the party and will never have much success in the portal other than pulling out former players that nobody wants.
It isn't just the portal. Fran has been a bad recruiter for HS players too. He is a good offensive coach, his players seem to like playing for him and is decent at player development.
Honestly if Fran could get a defensive genius on his staff and an Ace young recruiter on his staff, he could do quite well. I know we like to bag on Fran but he's a good offensive coach.
He's also excellent at throwing tantrums.
Fran doesn’t need to recruit squat. He can stretch this thing out with the promise of the youngsters, baby McCafe and little Wieskamp way down the road, keep some more guys 6 or 7 years, who needs the portal or high school recruits with legacy guys staying half a dozen years?
Giving his kids more playing time than they deserve probably doesn't help.
I imagine he gets absolutely killed on the recruiting trail for that. "You'll never play as long as his kid(s) are there..."
I’d use that against him as a recruiter as well, cause it’s pretty obvious.
Zero reason why Kris, who was a fringe draft guy, didn’t start and averaged 7 less minutes than Patrick and only .9 minutes more than Connor. Unreal lol.
