With Nebraska, I think we are going to see a flip of script next year.
They had about everything go wrong that could in 9 games last year. They get it figured out and get back to 8-9+ wins next year.

I think they beat NW, North Dakota, Georgia Southern, Rutgers, indiana, Minny, Purdue, Illinios and Maybe Iowa next year. they don't play MSU, Penn State or Ohio State

Just think that 8-10 wins was unacceptable just a short 10 years ago and now they would kill for it.

Then maybe Iowa gets their script flipped and every single deflected ball doesn't end up as a pick six, etc. and they come back to earth? They get OSU and Michigan back on the schedule next year. But no MSU or Penn State...
Rinse lather repeat. I won't believe Nebby is "back" until they do it. It's been the same mantra from there for years and years.

MATT CAMPBELL, IOWA STATE HC: Already a proven force in the Big 12, Campbell has been a trendy candidate for a number of top jobs – he was, per sources, among the candidates vetted by USC – but remained loyal to Iowa State.

However, there is a sense in the industry that Campbell is more open to exploring a move as the Cyclones bid farewell to one of the program's all-time winningest groups of upperclassmen
Code for: a lot of the media circle jerk think it's a good idea. Which means absolutely ******* nothing.

As much as a person likes anyone in the sports profession or even politics. Its foolish to rely on things people say in those areas. The list of examples is long of the coaches that have said something and 1-2 days later done the opposite. Not sure why coaches continue to paint themselves into a corner by saying things like " I am firmly entrenched, etc" , but I also don't understand why teams continue to fair catch punts inside the 5 yard line either....lol

But you are right....there comes a point where a blueblood comes crawling, you think you can win a title with them and they are going to pay you a guaranteed 100 million for 10 years. Could be hard to pass up.

End the end, I think we are going to have to find a way to get him in the ~5M range, provide more incentives like more $$ for winning the Big12 title or getting to a NY6 bowl/playoffs, etc.
And I am sure he is going to want more for his assistants.
But even if we get him at 5M he is going to be making half of the top jobs in College football. Do we really think Lincoln Riley is worth twice Matt Campbell? No, but that is just the way things work.

These numbers below do make me feel better about things considering there are a lot of good coaches on this list making the same or just above MC.

And the five most expensive coaches to fire:

1. Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M -- $95.575 million
2. Dabo Swinney, Clemson -- $47.5 million
3. Nick Saban, Alabama -- $38.4 million
4. Ryan Day, Ohio State -- $28.416 million
5. Matt Campbell, Iowa State -- $28.333 million

Top 5 salaries in each conference:

Big 12
1. Lincoln Riley, Oklahoma -- $7.857 million
2. Gary Patterson, TCU -- $6.103 million
3. Steve Sarkisian, Texas -- $5.45 million
4. Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State -- $4.375 million
5. Matt Campbell, Iowa State -- $4 million

Big Ten
1. James Franklin, Penn State -- $7 million
2. Ryan Day, Ohio State -- $6.614 million
3. Pat Fitzgerald, Northwestern -- $5.748 million
4. Mel Tucker, Michigan State -- $5.632 million
5. Scott Frost, Nebraska -- $5 million
5. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa -- $5 million

Pac-12
1. David Shaw, Stanford -- $8.924 million
2. Chip Kelly, UCLA -- $5.6 million
3. Kyle Whittingham, Utah -- $5.2 million
4. Clay Helton, USC -- $4.813 million
5. Mario Cristobal, Oregon -- $4.6 million

SEC
1. Nick Saban, Alabama -- $9.5 million
2. Ed Orgeron, LSU -- $9.012 million
3. Dan Mullen, Florida -- $7.57 million
4. Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M -- $7.5 million
5. Kirby Smart, Georgia -- $7.133 million

ACC
1. Dabo Swinney, Clemson -- $9.508 million
2. Pat Narduzzi, Pitt -- $4.816 million
3. Justin Fuente, Virginia Tech -- $4.25 million
3. Bronco Mendenhall, Virginia -- $4.25 million
3. Mike Norvell, Florida State -- $4.25 million

I believe this article is wrong and Matt Campbell only has a $4 million buyout

One thing no one talks about is the family dynamic, isn’t one of CMCs daughters about to enter high school? That’s a hard age to move your kids.
It would be a hard age, but they aren't that old yet. I was curious, and if the profile that WRNL did when CMC was hired is accurate, his oldest child is only 11/12.

That article would be way off if you are correct.
I figured it was another creative way to keep someone around. getting paid 28M to be fired is pretty ridiculous. but again, all of this really is....lol

Vacation homes are expensive. Let alone now you need boats, jet skis, grounds crew because you won’t be there. They generally start business/s and don’t borrow but push cash to them. Know people who trade cars every 6 months, that’s an expensive habit.

When you think about spending the money, many times what the very wealthy spend it on is similar but just 10 notches higher end stuff. You buy a $1000 suit, they have a $10,000 tailored suit made. You have a 300,000 home, they have a 5MM lake home. You renovate your kitchen for 25k every 10-15 years they gut and redo for 100k every 3-5 years to keep up with their neighbors and what is hit on HG TV.

Your parties may be BYOB for your 10 good friends. They provide everything for basically the whole neighborhood to show. My wife has a friend like this, thankfully she has accepted that we won’t keep up with them in anyway and we are doing better than most.

Also remember, nearly half will go to taxes. So your 80k with take home of 60-65 seems closer when their 8MM has a 4 MM take home.

Sounds like there is little time to Coach when you are spending all your time picking out vacation homes, and boats, and everything. And there is no way that there is an effective rate of 50% taken for taxes.

The more I see from Fred, the more him and Campbell are different.
I think Fred just wanted to be able to go to the grocery store without having to sign stuff or have terrible small talk like he could as a middling NBA player who wasn't 7'2"

No, still different. I will give the small talk because he’s bad at that. Money is a big driver for Fred (always has been and Johnny even alluded to it) I don’t see it that much from Campbell. Of course I haven’t had the more “intimate “ encounters with Campbell that I had with Fred.

That's probably why Pollard was testing out jetski's. Let Campbell focus on coaching without having to make decisions like which brand to buy. That's why he's the best AD out there.

Again it is hard to spend that much money. It is definitely possible but you have to completely change how you live. Someone who isn’t working or who has a different type of job can actually take advantage of some of that. A football coach doesn’t even have the time to utilize most of that stuff. They are at the football facility most of their life.

I make in the $40,000-$70,000 range right now. In order to move to say LA you would have to pay me $150,000 to even consider a move. There are plenty of people who would be drawn by less money than that but I think Campbell is much more like me than he is those people.

I do worry about some Midwest schools but the big flashy names I don’t think have the draw for him. Just because they can throw money around doesn’t mean as much as it used to. Like I said you have to be trying to spend as much money as possible to be worried about money if you are Campbell.

Someone mentioned that as a thing for Riley and his family. How in Norman and OU, you get stopped everywhere. In LA, you’re just another celebrity and a lot less likely to get stopped by every single person wanting a picture.

My understanding is it would cost ISU $28 million to fire CMC and his assistants with out cause but it would only cost CMC (or whomever hired him) $4 million to leave for another job.
