I didn’t say it was in his best interest to talk to the cops. But it is in her best interests (if she were alive) and it’s fine to judge him based on the facts that he clearly neglected her interests or any care about her at all.

Can't disagree. His actions don't look good and have convicted him in the media. Fortunately Law enforcement needs FAR more than that to convict him and take away his freedom. District Attorneys hate going into court with only circumstantial evidence.

Not by helping him impose his 5th amendment right. They could only be charged if they for example took bleach to the entire van an behalf of their son. You asking that question means they could impose their 5th amendment rights as well. Which in no way does or should imply guilt.

I mean, yeah. Maybe I'm being naïve here but in your scenario by simply just telling the police exactly that story, when she was first reported missing by her parents, would be a huge help in at least narrowing down where she was.

And to be clear, I am not saying he wasn't in his right to hire an attorney or that he shouldn't have, but to not provide any insight or information at all to help with her whereabouts is what I find it most suspicious.

Say in that scenario Maybe they had a huge fight and were on their way to getting a divorce. You think he still wouldn't have any worry if she was okay, and want to try and help find her?

As someone who mistakenly tried to help the police as teen without an attorney present...I can assure you that no matter how innocent/remotely tied to an event I was, I will NOT talk to them again without an attorney.

I don't blame the family for retaining representation before talking to the police, even though it "looks bad". The FIRST suspect is going to be the boyfriend/last person to see her, and I would want an attorney there if it was me.

Now on the flip side, what we know right now doesn't look good for this guy. It all looks shady as ****.

For all the arguments about what this guy should do whether he did it or not, I'll just say this solely from my noted extensive Dateline watching experience (for whatever that is worth, if anything) and the overall conglomerate results from those shows. If the husband cares about doing the right thing and winning the public perception battle, he is likely better off talking to the police. However, if we are solely talking about increasing your chances of not being convicted of murder, the husband is better off not saying a word. If I've learned anything from Dateline, it is that it is very hard to convict someone of murder, especially when the person isn't talking and saying stupid stuff that is then used against them. All said and done, it is NOT the responsibility of anyone to prove they are innocent of a crime, but rather the State's burden to PROVE beyond a reasonable doubt that the person is guilty. This isn't the guilty or innocent trial, but rather the guilty or not guilty trial. Big difference. I've also found most the people who do get convicted are WAY more hurt by anything they say in an interrogation than helped, especially without a lawyer present.
