Big 10 is obviously best case scenario for both money and stability. Road trips to Boulder and Eugene sound pretty fantastic though.
whether or not ISU is in the big 10 I will still hate that conference.

If ISU did join, I would like to see Rutgers and Maryland go where they belong….ACC.

Then the big 10 add ISU, KU, KSU and one other big 12 team.

That's why if I were "lower tier" schools in the SEC, I would be careful to vote Texas and OU in, it will dilute their power even more and make it easier for SEC to kick them to the curb.
Correct. UT is a cancer/drama queen wherever they've been. Killed the Southwest Conference. Attached themselves as a lifeline to the Big 8 and have managed to kill their host here. SEC may make the $$$ but their behind the scenes stuff is going to turn into a reality television show. Count on it!

Michigan isn’t leaving. A school that considers itself the best public university in the country isn’t going to join a conference with Mississippi State, Arkansas and the like. The cultural fit is horrendous and it is comical that anyone would even think that is a possibility.

If Ohio State bolts you sure as **** better believe Michigan and Penn State are gone as well. No one has any clue what is going to happen. If a 30 team super football conference is the end goal Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State will not be left out.

We would need to have had more sports to be considered for the Big Ten IMO. Having just 6 men's sports seems so minor league.

Looks like the smallest is 8 by Maryland and NW, so we would have to add 2 to 4 men's sports, but with the extra money, I am sure that would not be a problem

It's almost like the schools that have had more money all of these years also offer more sports. Interesting.

And according to the NCAA, ISU currently offers 18 sports (7 men, 11 women).

Yeah, I guess if you split indoor and outdoor track. Don't see how that's another sport - with the same athletes...

The Big 10 does split track into two different seasons. So we would be at 7. Move the hockey team from a Club sport to a scholarship sport and it would get us to 8. Or add back some sports we have dropped over the years, like baseball.

It would be fun if ISU would field an NCAA hockey team. Hilton could be retro-fitted with an ice rink under the basketball court. Hockey would be a good fit in the Big Ten. I am originally from MN and enjoyed going to Gopher hockey games as a kid. I am not sure hockey would be popular at ISU (?).

Because the NCAA says it is.

Two separate seasons.
Two separate championships.
Two separate eligibility clocks.

If they create a 30 team super conference not all of the blue bloods can be dominant. Wait until Texas or Michigan or Georgia is going 6-6 regularly.
Need to completely change the mindset about wins a losses under this new model. 8-4 or 7-5 makes the playoffs. NFL model.

I would like to add some sports.
Just looking at our "peer" schools in the Big Ten - Purdue has 10 men's sports, Mich State has 12, Penn State has 16, Illinois has 10. And we have just 7.
Those schools I would think would be key allies for us if we ever do come under consideration.

Does it cost very much to add rifle? Could get some walk on participants from our student body

ISU is “right sized” and prime for a B10 spot. Up and coming program with decent fan base and top notch facilities, but not quite a big dog blue blood that will keep OSU or Michigan from being concerned.
B10 gets a natural rival and can add conference games, keep travel expenses low, increase gates at MN, ILL, etc. another wresting program. BB blue blood, and doesn’t sacrifice academics. Of all the schools out there honestly they’d be dumb not to invite us.
Do you harness and grow what ISU in conference? Or do you risk having a sleeping giant emerge in your back yard that’s in a different conference?
Reminds me of Houston fans rationalizing themselves into that Big 12 invite.

And the Big Ten sanctions 4 men's sports that the Big 12 doesn't (hockey, soccer, lacrosse, gymnastics), so it would make no sense for ISU to currently offer those.

Michigan State has hockey and soccer.
Illinois has gymnastics.
Penn State has gymnastics, soccer, hockey, and lacrosse, plus 2 that the Big Ten doesn't even offer (fencing and volleyball).
