Ok, not going to debate, as criteria often will be subjective. But I do know two ISU grads who beat out Berkley grads for high paying research jobs, but I realize that is anecdotal. I do admit we have not advanced our academic status in a number of years, as we have policies that have discouraged international students, and some out of state students etc. and have had increasing reliability on research and tuition dollars which I hope will change soon but we still have chops in engineering, science, ag and vet med that I know of, maybe more.
Jfc. Confirmation bias. Berkeley wins over Ames. Jfc.

Depending upon academic area, think we still compare favorably with Cal, at least we used to be rated so. Both schools are AAU.
Cal/Berkley is the pinnacle of the California BoR institutions. Most Importantly, the state of California SUPPORTS its state universities, unlike R Iowa, where less funding by the state is the "plan for excellence'.

Not exactly sure.

Then why is their tuition 50% higher than ours for instate students?

We have derailed this thread, sorry but we do have good academics in areas, could be better certainly, and in some areas we excel. Berkley overall ranks better, and we should work to attempt to improve our standing, both politically and supporting our institution, the best we can!

In this thread who has been recruited as a d1 athlete. Who has had kids go though the process. It will help me determine who to mock.
This is weird and you've brought it up multiple times now. No offense but nobody cares about you or a family member being recruited and it isn't a requirement to discuss Iowa State football recruiting

University of California, Los Angeles/Undergraduate tuition and fees
In-state tuition 13,240 USD, Out-of-state tuition 42,994 USD

The "Iowa State" of the CBoR institutions, UC Davis,

I didn't know 50% of 31 is 18! When did arithmetic change?

I'm not picking a side, I'm just here for the math. Where are your 31 and 18 numbers coming from? Your first link says Cal instate tuition is $14,254. The Iowa State link says our instate tuition is $9,320. If you increase 9320 by 50% you get $13,980. I'd say calling 14,254 50% higher than 9,320 is close enough in this context.

Look at the rest of the fees. Their room and board is $7600 more than ISU. And they charge students $2800 for health insurance if a student doesn't have it or it's not adequate for their requirements. But he didn't count that.

Tuition, Room & Board, and books:

ISU $19510
UCLA $31425

I just mentioned tuition. I know I paid mid 9 for tuition last year for my kid at ISU. Berkeley was the 14 number that was quoted for 19-20, doubtful they went down last year. If California support of their universities is so much stronger than Iowa’s, why is their tuition for instate kids so much higher? That was the question I was posing

That's just tuition. Having lived in L.A., Oakland, and SF for 30 years one can not ignore the cost of living (which can still be attributed to politics) to easily offset that small miscalculation (ie 8%). Bottom line, Cal is substantially more expensive. Let's also not ignore the economic strength of California. When you compare California's economic income to their contribution to their flagship universities, it's pitiful compared to Iowa's. So, I suggest you consider all perspectives when trying to slam Iowa.

Imagine being this upset about a 17/18 year old making a decision for their life....

Too soon.

*I'm still not over Zion Williamson not coming to Ames.

*this is a joke on how some fans fully expect ISU to just get great recruits all the time. Watch someone still reply with a 'Was he interested in ISU?' or 'But he didn't even list ISU as a top 5'.

Losing out on a kid like this used to mean we'd have to fall back on stealing a recruit from a directional school.

Now we will probably luck our way into someone even better. This staff will handle missing out on this recruit.
