Anyone else hearing that JP has already decided Prohm is coming back?

You have absolutely zero way of knowing what will happen if TJ is hired. Most coaching hires are a gamble so whether it is TJ or Smith or most other candidates it could end up not working or it could work. There were a lot of people who thought the Hoiberg hire was a disaster.

Id be interested to see what percentages people are putting on TJ being successful vs Craig Smith being successful here. I’d say they are both 50/50.

Don't get me wrong -- those conservative Las Vegas residents work for the entertainment sector.

I just don't think being a dealer at a casino, a chef at a restaurant, or working in the IT department of a Las Vegas resort automatically makes you a hedonist. A very disproportionate share of Las Vegas' population is made up of Hispanics, veterans, and people who left California and Washington to escape the high taxes, high costs, and their politics, and all three of those are three of the most dependably conservative populations you will find.

They take the money from the tourists and then go home to their boring suburban lives, only with more sand.

I’ve always loved PHX & Arizona, but Vegas seems like it’d be another option as kind of a “mini” Phoenix. Just spitballing if I were to ever move in the future

I love Fred, but I'm not interested. He still wants to go back to the NBA. You can tell this by his buyout clause at Nebraska. It's 4x as high if he jumps to a college rank than if he jumps to the NBA.

If that remains (which is has in both his college contracts) he'll have the same issues recruiting.
I don’t believe Fred wants to go back to the NBA, at least not as a coach. He wouldn’t have taken one of the worst jobs in CBB if he wanted to prove to NBA execs he can still coach. He’d have taken a more high profile job to help him look better.

Hasn’t everyone always said he picked nebraska because they were the only ones that would take him.

Yeah, if he wanted to stay in the NBA I think he would have taken an assistant job somewhere like a lot of guys do before popping back up as a HC for another team.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree that both are 50/50, but assuming that's the case then you go TJ because he is more likely to stick around if he does have success.

Yeah, cities like Las Vegas, Phoenix, Tucson, Albuquerque, El Paso... similar genre but at different sizes.

Most of them are pretty nice, though. ABQ is a personal favorite.

Lol that’s not true. Anyone who thinks that doesn’t know what they’re talking about. He had plenty of better options that a bottom tier team.

Look to his buyout in the contract. Almost 10 million after year 2 to go to a college job, only 2 million for an NBA job. You don't put that in your contract unless you want to jump to the NBA again. No coach has language like Fred's in the public contract database. You can check.

Have you looked at a lot of coaches buyouts for NBA jobs?

If it's TJ, he'd better be really good really fast. The perception (and probably reality) of a quick buddy hire aren't gonna put him in a good place to get started.
If I were TJ, I don't know if I would want to take the job right now because it is going to be starting over from scratch and he is already in the middle of a rebuild right now. Of course, if you consider it a dream job you take it no matter what.

No NBA team would touch him after his Bulls stint and going to Nebraska obviously was a terrible career move if his goal was to make it back to the NBA..

It doesn't matter if an NBA team would touch him... it matters whether is SEEMS like an NBA team would touch him. You can bet it will still be used recruiting against us, and ultimately, if he's able to bring ISU back to relevance again, I bet an NBA team would take another flyer.

Smith looks like he's a heck of a coach -- just not sure how he would do attracting P6 talent.

TJ has proven he can recruit, but I am not sure how good of a developer or gameday coach he is.

Both are probably going to get a shot at some point, though.

Smith has been mentioned as a strong possibility for Arizona and Kansas State.

100%. He will undoubtedly have my support but we’d better have some palpable success by year 3.
