Before our trip out to SD/WYO, our last vacation was Bahamas in March of 2019. The SD/WYO trip was decided on a whim since we figured we wouldn't be making the trip down to Destin this year. If we don't go anywhere in October, it'll be next May or June before we finally go somewhere else again.
I don't trust hotels enough to stay in them yet. You're younger (and healthier). For us, it's a risk neither of us is willing yet to take. We had to do an overnight in Iowa City at the end of June, and while I was at my first appt Lew checked into the motel and went over the entire room with sanitizer. It would be exhausting to do that EVERY night.

I don't blame you for not trusting them. We did the same with our hotel rooms and put the "Do not disturb" sign up to keep people out of the rooms while we were gone. Being younger, we can be riskier in that stuff but we still were overly cautious.

Mrs. Velo and I have considered picking up a used Roadtrek. We wouldn't have to stay in a hotel and we could drive to all of the out of state soccer tournaments instead of having to fly to some of them. Would just have to work out the finances. Even the used ones aren't cheap.

We were supposed to do a 2-3 week loop of AZ, CA, OR, WA & UT this past June, hitting up Nat'l parks - Grand Canyon, Sequoias, Redwoods, Yosemite, Crater Lake, Olympic peninsula, then route back through Utah for a couple there. Yeah. That plan got shot to ****. :(

You could also enlarge the loop a bit and add Glacier.

Mini-Winnies run quite a bit cheaper than that and come in van-type configurations as well. Are you set on a Roadtrek?

We deliberately left out Glacier & Yellowstone as we were just there about six years ago (made a Canadian loop on that trip). Glacier is beautiful, but too far north for the route we were attempting. :)
It is at the top of my list right now. The way we are headed it is going to have to be known by a symbol - the park formerly known as Glacier. I want to see it all before it is gone.

You're right about that. I first visited Glacier in 1966, when we moved from Washington to Florida. When Lew and I went back (in 2013), I was blown away by how little glacier was actually left. I kept trying to tell him how EVERYTHING was white when I was there before, but it wasn't until we got back to internet access and I was able to pull up comparisons of the rapidly receding glaciers that we were able to visualize the difference between my memory and the current reality.

Ooo ooo...I have! It's kinda weird. The rocky outcroppings from the one side of the rim you're on are totally real. Looking out at the opposite rim, that's like a stage backdrop in a theater.
I haven't been there in nearly 50 years, & Lew has never been there. Despite visiting my father in Phoenix several times, we never made it north to the Canyon (lack of time, & needing a car rental). We had promised ourselves we would make it this time. :(

Talking with a friend in Denver, might road trip out there and stay a couple of days. Then make our way to Rocky Mountain National Park for a couple of days. Then head to Dinosaur National Monument for a couple of days. Then head home.

This is the best time of year in Colorado. RMNP gets pretty busy this time of year with the elk rut that draws in even more visitors

Wherever I go, there I am.
Born in Waterloo, moved to Cedar Falls in 3rd grade. I claim "Cedar Falls" as my hometown to not let people know how trashy I really am.
Most can probably guess. ;)

I grew up in a little town about an hour up the road from Waterloo on Highway 63. (in Howard County). So more north and not quite as east as you. Was a Crestwood Cadet for HS.

I always thought having high schools with a name different than the city was weird growing up. I was either going to be going to Waterloo West High School or Cedar Falls High School. Then you start seeing names like AGWSR, MFL-MARMAC, etc.
Well, you City Slickers didn't get bussed in from all over the country-side, more'n likely.
