Not playing college football so our bright young people don’t die isn’t “staying locked inside for two years”. 100 years ago kids this age were living in trenches getting gassed, bombed, machine gunned, with a deadly pandemic that they didn’t even know about. I think we can make it without a football game because ENTERTAIN ME!
Your perspective on this virus is so out of wack. I guess the athletic department better be well stocked with body bags. Hopefully Mary Greeley can handle all the 18-22 years olds that are soon going to be in the hospital.

The mental health deterioration, suicides, and other unintended consequences needs to also be considered. We flattened the curve, now its time to go about things smart. To me, I believe Jamie Pollard is going about things as careful as he can. He flat out said there is risk but here is the plan to minimize it.

I thought we were trying to not have this in the cave? Your rw talking points are showing. LINK?

what do we do when we do risky things? What do you have in your car that you should wear whenever you get in? What is the point of that device?

You can answer your own rhetorical questions. It's obvious you and I don't agree on this issue and I respect your opinion.

the correct answer is....bum bum bum... MITIGATION.

now non rhetorical question: how do you mitigate an airborne spreading infectious disease?

Lol I've never been rw nor ever will be but thanks. I just think for myself on each issue. If my opinion falls on the left then fine. If it falls on the right fine.

I have no links. I just made a general comment all things need to be considered when making decisions. It's not a simple "everyone go out and play and let's not worry" nor is it a simple "let's all stay home and skip a season and all well be will". There is risk in all options. People like Pollard seem to understand this and are trying to go about things in a logical way to reduce the risk. You're making this political, not me.

Guess we gotta stay home every winter because flu/colds are airborne spreading infectuous diseases that kill people. Obviously not on the level of Covid but hey there's still risk.

You are like Reuben Feffer in Along Came Polly, avoid risks at all costs. I am more like Leland Van Lew and prefer to do what I enjoy despite the risks.

The only thing we'll know for certain is time will tell. We are in uncharted waters. It's such a hindsight 20/20 issue.

these young athletes are ramming their heads into each other and could break a vertebrae and become paralyzed?

Hmmm.... I’ve been told on here numerous times that young healthy people don’t get COVID and aren’t at risk? I guess we can officially throw out that stupid myth.

people acting like a positive case wasn't going to happen bringing people back.

of course it's going to happen.

but 18-24 year olds have a better chance of dying by getting struck by lightening than they do with corona.

you wrap yourself up in bubble wrap when you leave the house, too?

So one can't make a general comment those things shouldn't be considered?

"What? You don't agree with my opinions? Obviously rw!! Link or you can't say that!!"
You don't think there should be research/discussions into looking into mental health in all of this? I don't think that's a partisan statement at all.

I do not have any evidence for this, but I am 99.99% sure at least a few (if not a significant amount) of college students die driving to/from campus each fall, even if they only do it once. It is much worse for commuters (like I was). Back-and-forth between Boone and Ames in my mid-90s Ford Escort on Highway 30 every day, especially in some ****** conditions into the teeth of the Iowa winter, was far from perfectly safe every time I did it.

If we cancel college, then we save a few lives.

Why don't we just cancel it wholesale, Gunner? Why do you want people to die?
"For those ages 1 through 24, even a wildly out-of-control Covid-19 pandemic that exceeded the worst-case scenarios and killed 5 million Americans would appear to pose less risk than cars and trucks and boats do in a normal year."

This article uses CDC data on death rates by age from Covid compared to other causes of deaths. Thought it had some interesting things in there.

It's the same people who see 200-300 new cases and freak out yet the 7 day moving average has been decreasing the last couple weeks for the state of Iowa.

However, that does not mean this isn't serious and take it serious. My family has chosen not to have anyone in our house nor go anywhere other than a park for a hike as a family. Now we're starting to hang out with neighbors outside yet are keeping the 6ft and not sharing foods in mind ect. I think it's just going to be a slow ease back into things but its important to live life and try to minimize the risks.

We also have an effective mitigation against deadly flu strains: inoculation.

it sucks that we don’t have that for COVID right now but that’s the reality. The reality distortion field around this thing is intense and it makes it hard to see a sane way forward. Grandma dies for the Dow, Tommy dies for a Touchdown. Grim stuff.
