I go back to my point earlier in this thread. Standing next to a playing marching band is "damage your hearing" type loud.

This is typical in just about any marching band.
I wouldnt go that far. Otherwise we'd have a lot of deaf marching band members.
If they just march quietly through, I honestly don't think there would have been any problems.
Nothing wrong with a band keeping people out of its ranks. But it means the band needs to be aware of potential issues with that and avoid things like pushing into a crowd.
OK, still an extremely dumb concept. Can you imagine if offensive line walked around five wide refusing to move all the time because they were taught not to "break rank". You're a band. Your task of playing during the game is over. There is no need to be "in rank" anymore.
Nothing wrong with a paying customer on public property cutting through them to get to where they need to go either.
They should start having the bands go to the same classes/trainings as the athletes about how to handle themselves because they are all obnoxious as hell once they get together.

The Iowa band applying military tactics and their instruments as a means to force their way though a crowd is an issue.
Wasn't the case when i was in it at least. After 4 years at ISU and another 2 in a DCI corps, Id be pretty deaf by now if hearing loss from being in a marching band was an issue.
Haha, I totally agree, but when we were in high school we took it pretty seriously, I imagine a lot of the hawkeye band members do to. Especially with an opportunity to maybe shoulder a few disgruntled Cyclone fans.
