If we return everybody I'd say a top 4 seed, hopefully a 3, and we should absolutely compete for the conference championship and be ranked wire to wire. Now if that doesn't happen, will I throw a fit and want everybody fired? No.

That would fall under “exceeds expectations” on my scale. Wouldn’t be shocked by it but also not expecting it.

Sky is the limit. Question is, how much can Prohm make that work? He will have a lot of people watching this next season. Maybe Prohm is more of an offseason coach and in the game, he lets the players work out the struggles rather than spearhead the adjustments himself or maybe this year in particular was an anomaly regarding personnel. If he can make this team develop an identity beyond fast break/hero ball, I think next years team has a real chance at something special even without Shayok.
Agree. Not going to turn this thread into a Prohm debate, we've got plenty of those, but there's no doubt in my mind that Prohm is going to evaluate this season, and even question himself if he handled the lineup correctly.

Sometimes I think some fans fail to realize that coaches can, and do, improve just as much as players in the off-season. I really think Prohm wanted to use Jacobsen, Lard, and Young equally, and even together, but the early suspensions and injuries made it impossible.

Prohm isn't dumb, despite some posters' thoughts here, he knows he can't get abused on the boards like they did some games this season.

His fault this season was not having a 'plan b' when it came to the lineup. People ***** about his in- game coaching, but there really wasn't much he could do, because they never worked any other lineups or sets in practice. I think he'll learn from this, and hopefully have better options next season.

I'm confused by the Griffin leaving comments. He's a freshman. There's no reason to think he won't be back.

Lewis? I can see him moving on, but hope he doesn't. I like the kid.

There is a poster or two on 247 that mentioned he doesn't put the work in.

Edit
Referring to Zion

A few weeks back one of the ISU media guys posted some comments on twitter from a couple NBA scouts regarding THT and they were both in the he wasn't even close to being ready camp.

Whoever comes back guys need to hit open shots. Im not even talking about the heavily defensed contested shots. Just the open ones. I have never witnessed so many missed wide open 3 pointers in my life as I did this season.

Our guards routinely get "ridden" up the court. I dont want floppers but I do want them to sell it to the officials and get the call. Throw that head back and sell it like other teams do.

I like Prohm and am a fan but we need to be getting the same foul calls that we get called for. He needs to assert himself so that we GET charges instead of always being called for them. That we get over the back calls instead of them being called.

That 10 or 11th man getting a scholly is always going to be fluid. Kids have an inflated perception of themselves and want playing time. I dont even get worried about them leaving anymore.

I agree but with the two way contracts now. You don't have to be ready. You just have to have the upside they like. Which THT with his wingspan has. He can also score about 24 a game in G League since he is a high volume guy and that looks good to scouts. I would like to see him stay at least another year though. Same with Wiggs. It could get Wiggs back in the starting lineup and he won't be hampered by the injury.

Yeah. There's a big difference between the guys writing up mock drafts, and the actual NBA scouts. They'll begin to sort themselves out in next couple months.

Young players aren't leaving college early in hopes of a two way contract...

Very true, however, they have a fallback now. So the second round is not as horrible as it used to be. They see guys going from G league to the big show.

Way up there
If we get back most of the guys from this year, all I want us to be able to is play two lineups, one that plays 4 guards and takes advantage of mismatches and one that can go big and make teams pay who can ONLY play small.

I'm not sure why that was so tough this year but my guess is, Prohm felt like he was totally retooling the rotation multiple times when players were returning from injuries/suspension. The reality is, everyone in our league, most teams in the tourney play small, many are better suited to play it than we are, especially with a 4 playing as your only big.

No Solomon Young mention? Fail.

A healthy Solomon Young might be the most important piece for this team.

We could have really used him this year. Texas Tech has Odiase and that guy is a beast swallowing up rebounds, playing hard on all ends and is sufficient at scoring around the bucket. Young would have helped a lot this year and I'm looking forward to seeing him next year!

He's not even close. Anyone who watches any NBA knows unless he takes his athleticism or shooting to the next level he is a marginal NBA talent at best. And no, not good enough to spend a first round draft pick on his potential. If he was 4 inches taller maybe.

Why do people act like THT is the finished product or should be the finished product? He’s going to be an 18 year old sophomore he will only get better and better with time and experience.

I get he isn't a finished product, I wasn't trying to say he was. I think his decision making was that of a freshman who let some of the hype go to his head. He wouldn't be the first, nor will be the last, for that to happen. I think everyone would agree his decision making is his weakness though.

I have no problem if he is back, won't change me rooting for him either way. If I am picking one to return between him and LW though (not saying both can't return) I would personally choose LW.

Anyone that does not want THT back is crazy. He was a 17-18 year old freshman who made freshman mistakes. Some freshman get shy and won't shoot and won't do it because they bow to the upper classman. Some still have that "Im the man, Im shooting it" type mentality. THT has that. It's ok but when you mix that with the freshman thing it can be a struggle. He can learn better shot selection and go over film in the off season. Same with Wiggs.

A lot of the criticism that is leveled towards THT is similar stuff we had against Deonte Burton his junior year. How many times would we see junior Deonte Burton come into a game and jack up a step back 3? Everyone even said are we getting good Deonte or bad Deonte tonight? Some NBA feedback and film room study with Prohm and staff and he had a crazy good senior year.

I feel like THT could have that same kind of progression heading into next year. Deonte took the feedback and coaching to heart. If THT can do the same, he can have a great sophomore season.

Next year we have

Prohm as head coach
Lard stays
Wiggs Stays
THT stays
Add Nixon
Add three incoming recruits
George finds the weight room

We add a grad transfer. I want some positives. Sick of seeing the negatives that everyone is leaving including our coach. I think everyone stays except maybe Zion or Lewis. Which would suck but we could add someone more ready to step in.

If both THT and Wigginton stay, they will be really good and I don't think they add a grad transfer if that happens.

I do like the Deonte comparison a lot and it is certainly good to consider. Also worth noting that the change in his game his senior year is likely why he is playing in the league now.

Yeah, beyond obvious to go for a Shayok stash-and-sit guy if you have both LW and THT back. You already have Nixon, Haliburton, and hoping for some development from either one of the other returners and/or one of the incoming guys can contribute.
