Weak? That's hilarious. I'm saying that a lot of the regulars seem to have a good grasp that we will for sure lose, so, to me, there shouldn't be much of a meltdown.

Also, you aren't seriously saying that most of the perceived meltdown is simply well-reasoned criticisms, right? A guy could hit a 35 foot contested 3 at the buzzer and people on here would say we needed to guard him tighter.

Meltdowns aren't entirely logical.:)

Why would they pull data from last year? That seems ridiculous.

This year only has a small sample size.

Trying to do their sorts of analysis off only a handful of games and making adjustments for the quality of the opponent based on that sample size, particularly when there are not enough common opponents throughout the system to really build a valid set of comparisons, is going to look even weirder than using some data from last year.

It is around the middle of the season that those sites start to work on their own.

Honestly, I think this team is going to be a team that plays up/down to its opponent's level.

They won't let it be a blowout, but not saying they will win.

That seems to be an argument for not releasing the analysis until the middle of the season, not for drawing largely irrelevant data from last season.

True, but then where do the clicks come from...?

Its a shame that an otherwise good site spends so much of the year publishing misleading reports. Or maybe they have some magic formula for making it work. It is all beyond me anyway.

I'm really just excited to see how this team responds to a step up in competition. Seemed like Wigginton was having trouble holding onto the ball at the top of the key against Iowa. If he can develop more as a ballhandler that would free NWB up to be a little more aggressive and give ISU another angle of attack.

Like many of our games this season, the result will depend on our three-point shooting percentage. If Jackson is hitting contested threes, we're very tough. He's struggled against tougher competition. Babb needs to be in attack mode. He doesn't necessarily need to get all the way to the hoop, but he's been great at finding Jackson and Wigginton floating around the three-point line when the defense collapses. If we get those open looks, we can force UNI to open up a little on both ends.

I think this is a coaching mis match. Jacobsen has been established. You know what you get from him and his teams. This is also a talented UNI team. I have watch them play and they will play to their strength and make ISU slow it down. Prohm was supposed to bring a defensive mindset, but so far has shown his teams can execute his offensive system down the stretch, when trying to slow it down. Instead they have continued to play a faster game. Something UNI won't do.
ISU has yet to play anyone of note. Iowa is a bad basketball team and they had it close through out. UNI is fundamentally sound and efficient.
UNI controls every part of this game and wins it by 7-9 points.

Thanks for playing but 'No Cigar' - At worst this is a coaching draw. Not sure that CSP expected to make ISU defensive minded, maybe better than they had been but I think his strength is on the offensive end. Also, UNI won't control every part of this game. They may well control pace but every other area is a toss up. And the game is a toss up.

No doubt...UNI will shoot 75% as a team from 3 but...

Last five games from 3 pt land

Pickford 13%
McCloud 32%

and Carlson has been ice cold with the exception of UT Arlington. It will be interesting to see if we implement some zone to pack in the lane. I don't like the idea of Brase defending Carlson or Koch

I

McCloud was an 18% shooter from 3 pt range last year so 32% means that you have to honor his shot which opens up the lane that wasn't open last year. Pickford has a good looking shot that hasn't been falling, he is in the game much more for his defense and rebounding then offense.

Carlson has looked like the player who helped with the conference tourney 2 years ago and played very well in the NCAA tournament the last two games that meant something. The thing with him is that he influences the game in many ways besides scoring, but it has been nice to see him be more aggressive looking for his shot.

As stated this game comes down to pace, if it is in the 60s UNI wins, in the 70s it is a toss up, and 80s Iowa State wins.

My thoughts / things to watch: (UNI Fan, here)
1. I like the series. Never thought I’d say that, but I do. I’d prefer a Home-Home with ISU. Also a Home-Home-DesMoines would be good. I think it’s fun to have fans from all 4 teams

2. Wiggington will be fun to watch. He will be well defended, of course. Hopefully we can frustrate him. McCloud will be all over him.

3. Will ISU double-team Koch inside? We’ve seen both. UNLV did not - Koch scored 30. UT-Arlngtn did, and while Koch scored 3 Carlson scored 24. Koch’s weaknesses have been fouling and passing out of the double team. He’s working on both and those will be keys for a UNI win.

4. UNI Defense - It seems to be working. ISU will adjust in the second half and do better, but I expect the first half to be stifling.

5. Wyatt Lohaus has played 28 minutes in the last year. He says he’s healthy and is working on getting back into the game. Wyatt has played - and won - a lot in the WFA. So it is a great place for him to get going again.

6. 3-poit shooting is interesting to watch. McCloud, Haldeman, Pickford, Carlson, Brown, and WLohaus could each shoot 50% - or 20%. The great thing is that UNI does something we’ve never done before - rebound.

7. Drake vs. South East Iowa University - Of course we all want to see Drake win, right? Fran going berserk would be icing on the cake. Sherman Dillard will, of course, be on hand to restrain him.

8. As. UNI fan, I’m obviously hopeful to beat ISU AND for ISU to keep improving and for both to be NCAA tourney teams this year.

Prediction:
Halftime: 30-23 UNI
Final: 65-60
