So I was just at Scheels and discovered a slight annoyance with the new logo attire/colors.

While I love the color scheme, the new "red" doesn't go with the old "red". Also, they have new logo stuff in the "old" red and also some in the maroon red. Doesn't go well together either.

Found a hat I liked today withe the I-State logo, but it was more of a bright red (red of old with new logo). I wanted to get the new FB jersey replica, but that is the new colors (more maroon). Couldn't wear my new logo hat with the new jersey because the colors would look stupid together.

We need to design all new logo clothing in the new colors and let the old red/yellow go.

Ended up buying nothing, because the damn hat didn't match the rest of the stuff I wanted (and yes..need the hat for my bald head).

End rant.

Yes, it has been troubling seeing the inconsistency in color. Hopefully, after a year, things will be straightened out.

By the was, has ISU decided to keep the old logo as University Spirit Marks??? University Spirit Marks : Trademark Licensing Office

Originally, the old marks weren't supposed to be licensed anymore after a certain date, but I don't see that language on the Trademark website anymore. If the university will still use the old mark for certain things while the athletic department solely uses the new marks, then things have become even more messed up.

You have to click on the New Athletic Identity page to see that the "old" spirit marks are still valid for another month:

The Iowa State Univeristy Athletic Department has introduced a new identity beginning fall 2008! Marks are shown below. Athletics will continue to use the current family of marks until then. Marks are available to licensees via Trademarx Online , the artwork and approvals site of the Licensing Resource Group.

I'm guessing for the next couple seasons at least, until people update their cyclone grear, within the crowd and tailgating area, there will be a mix of twisty birds (on jackets, shirts, flags) and the colors of that era with the new logo and colors... visitors won't know what the heck our logos or colors truly are! of course we can't forget the old folk wearing the cir. 1986 polyester/nylon ISU jackets as well...

It should be fun this fall looking at the 30 different colors of red. I have nothing in the new traditional cardinal color yet. I guess I have a hat from about 6 years ago that is actually cardinal and gold and not ketchup and mustard.

That only refers to the athletic department. University departments can obtain a license of the old marks for use on clothing, etc. Is this going to change to the new marks? The term "University Spirit Marks" makes me think differently.

There was some discussion from the trademark office awhile back that things were going to be put on hold for awhile because the transition was going slower than expected. Who knows..

Thats the reason you rotate colors. Dont do the red/maroon hat & red/maroon jersey. You go with the yellow or white hat and the red/maroon jersey, switch it up.

Hey! Are you saying I can't wear my "Lil Kicking Cy" or my "Flintstone Schmuckeyes" t-shirts anymore???

(The Schmuckeyes t-shirt is in the very desirable PINK, btw)

I just went to the Stadium here in Ankeny over lunch, they have some AWESOME Under Armour hats and one of the coolest pullovers I have ever seen.

I refuse to purchase Under Armor Iowa State products for the simple fact that they did this one thing - they created a BLACK AND GOLD Iowa State shirt. Granted, Nike put the Iowa State logo onto a pair of black durasheen shorts, but that's still at least our logo, just on a pair of black shorts (something I'd just refuse to buy/wear). Under Armor making a black and gold Iowa State shirt is just unforgivable IMO...

It's a white hat, but the I-State logo is the old red. Still doesn't look right with the jersey.

Bottom line is we need some friggin consistancy to the apparel colors.

Hopefully it will fix itself over the next year or so.

Overall I’ve been disappointed with the lack of selection of the new Logo gear. I bought two Coaches Sideline Polos (one cardinal and one white) and a hat on Rivals Team Fanshop but overall the selection is nowhere near as good as old gear stuff; and when you do find good new gear stuff only Small and Mediums are left. I imagine one of the reasons we switched logos is to get guys like me to buy more gear and pump more money into the University. If this is going to happen more selection is needed and quick. Kickoff is less than 5 weeks away.
