still early
This. Our earliest commits last season were at the end of August.

Donovan Jackson - August
Solomon Young - August
Emmanuel Malou - September
Jakolby Long - October
Cameron Lard - November
Darrel Bowie - March

Some of the bigger name national commits happen around October/November.

It's definitely early but our targets have been identified for the most part. August and September will be important to get the ball rolling with some visits.

I think we will get Terrence Lewis who will be a good addition. I'm worried that we strike out with all of our primary PG targets though. It doesn't sound good with Weatherspoon any more. Both he and Sexton have probably blown up too much.

I think in the end we lose MicKinley Wright to Minny (yuck).

It will be crucial for a couple of Juco names to emerge soon too.

Still worried. Recent additional point guard offerings tells me we may not be getting our top targets. These new offer guys may be good....I don't know. The Chicago kids looks like a. 2 guard to me.

Other than Lard, TJ had multi year relationships will all of those kids. Not a very fair comparison now that TJ is gone.

I think obviously the big get would be Sexton. He is still interested in visiting so that is a positive. Wright would be probably be the guy most likely to commit. Haven't heard much about some of the other PG recruits lately like Wigginton and Garrett.

Sounds like we're still in it. Just another reminder to not take everything an 18-year-old says to some random recruiting reporter as gospel.

Good find, sounds promising for a visit to Ames.
Perry's Quote
"I'm going to cut my list down to five at some time this month," Perry said. "I've visited Georgia and Texas A&M so far. I'm planning on going to Baylor, Louisville, Iowa State and Memphis for visits as well at some point in August."

The point is it's early. I read somewhere that only 8 Top 50 have committed so far and only 22 of Top 100 have committed. I have not followed up on that to verify, but it seems likely. People have stated (unrealistically in my opinion) that our recruiting sucks 2-3 months ago because we have no 2017 commitments.

I don't put much stock into our lack of commits, but have we even had any visits under this staff (ex-TJ) besides Lard, Kasongo and Holden? That concerns me a little.

June is in the books, July is busy with open period events, and we have 6 scholarships to fill. We will have to get really busy with visits in August and September because our targets will start coming off the board fast.

I still think it will be really hard to get some of these kids from the South to get to Ames in the fall. Lard is the only HS kid to actually make a visit from down there and he basically wasn't being recruited by anyone else last year due to his academic problems.

Seems like late commitments dates for this class; Georges, Matt and Monte all committed in June.

Targets are starting to get into focus.

@coreyevens_10 Iowa State, Clemson, UAB sit good with a tough and aggressive 2017 guard

@hoopseen Scottie Bryant was a Day One standout at the Live Summer Festival.

"UAB head coach Rob Ehsan was in attendance for Jacksonville Magic guard Scootie Bryant where the rising senior out of Florida would be an impressive haul for the CUSA program. Sporting a college ready body, boatloads of toughness, a polished set of handles, and good energy levels, Bryant gets to the basket with ease, plays hard on each possession, and looks to be a four year winner at the point guard position in college."

Little more on Scootie.

I wasn't able to find anything on this kid, then realized they spelled his name wrong. It is Scootie Bryant for anyone who was interested.

This time of year from June through early August is the busiest time of year for AAU tournaments. Schools are not going to get official visits from top players during this time. This is the time where coaches can show their commitment to recruiting their top targets by being in the stands and visible to the recruit. After August we will have a good idea of who is seriously considering us as official visits get underway.

We do not have any national level tournaments in Iowa so you are not going to see official visits this time of year.

Appreciate the updates many of you post. I too am anxious/excited to see who we get. I know some are in "hurry up" and/or "oh, no!" mode, but we're not behind on anything at this point. While the success of the staff's post-TJ recruiting efforts remain to be seen, I'm very encouraged by their fervent activity and the fact that they're going after some very highly ranked kids but not staking the class on whether or not we get those kids. Give these guys a little patience.
