I'm very skeptical of our southern only recruiting strategy. It will be interesting to see if Small and Berry can prove me wrong. I doubt very much we can be successful with the highly recruited southern kids. I think we will need to find some kids like Lard who have academic baggage and are less competitively recruited as a result.

So far, Lard is the only kid Small has even gotten a visit from in the last 11.5 months.

Hopefully Berry can carry handle a big work load.

I can understand being skeptical as traditionally this is a new strategy for ISU.

As for Small's current track record I have a tough time judging it at this point, he didn't get the job until the middle of the summer and ISU really only had a couple of roster spots available anyways. Very tough to start building relationships and sell a school that you haven't been with for the 2016 class. That was left up to Otz to close the recruits he had the ear of. I'm cautiously optimistic a focus on Southern recruiting could work. Small does appear to have a lot of contacts in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Georgia and recruits seem to mention him positively a lot. Also Prohm hasn't stopped recruiting the MW especially Minnesota and Illinois, though with TJ gone the Wisconsin presence could take a hit. Let's give it another year to see how successful it is, lot of talent in Georgia and Miss right now.

hmmm... Listed 5/6 other schools working the hardest, yet wants unofficials to ISU and Cal. I'm not sure what that all means. so do we or don't we have a shot?

I feel like every time he talks he lists different schools. Maybe that question followed the "who do you plan on visiting" and he listed the other schools as to who else was recruiting him.

Getting Sexton would be huge. The best thing ISU has going for it right now for this kid is Morris. Don't know if that will be enough though.

Hope they can pull a couple good recruits out of the south this year.
Its crazy how hard it is to recruit to ISU even now they have become a perennial tournament team and ranked for three years.
I'm interested to see how well Berry does bc he helped put together some good classes at South Carolina when he was there and he is going to be recruiting the Midwest.

As am I, Sounds from his interviews that Neill took advantage with his year with TJ to show him the MW recruiting landscape and give introductions to his connections. Hopefully he is able to leverage them.

A 6'5" guard named Garrett worked out well for us last time.
