Last years team vs this years

I think this year's team is better. I love, love, love, the addition of Hallice Cooke off the bench. He reminds me a bit of Dedric Willoughby. Monte hasnt taken a big scoring role, but Nader has, and I think he's giving us more than BDJ was last year. I've been really stoked about the team once they cut down the TOs.

Yep I agree.

I don't see as much bi-polar tendencies as we seemed to have last year. Our team could go on 20-2 runs, but would give up 20-2 runs almost as often.

Last year we played to the energy level of our arena, and this year we seem much more consistent and play with more urgency.

It could just be in my head, but it certainly appears that way.
The worst has been 0-10 so far?

This team seems, so far at least, seems to be a little less exciting offensively, but definitely more assertive and attentive on defense.......although it still drives me nuts with some of the easy bunnies they give up, including against NDSU.

A couple people have said this, and I don't think I agree. They are still scoring tons of points, moving the ball around great, tons of oops to McKay & Nader, lots of 3s. Maybe the "less exciting" part is they drive the lane more for layups? But that's a good thing, really.

I guess I don't see it as less exciting. Maybe it's the fact the offense isn't as far ahead of the defense in a relative sense, as it was in the past. Maybe we are all just spoiled. :)

This team is missing a "mucker". (Hogue)
A guy who comes in and really ****s **** up. Grabs boards, Ds you up. Rips boards and drop kicks you in the ******* throat for being in HIS space. Maybe Burton will be that guy.

Agreed. Nader's a good player for us this year but he's not Hogue.

I'm curious on Burton for this reason too

So far, he's been much better. Hogue was basically playing as a 3 last season. Nader is way more dynamic on the offensive end, and when he's focused, his defense can be very good.

No he isn't Hogue defensively though what Abdel adds overall size, shot, and ball handeling he is out playing what DH gave last year. Not a knock against Hogue he was very good last year but Nader has raised the level of ISU's SF position.

Burton is a wild card, if he contributes at Hogue's last year level, the ceiling of the team definetly goes up. Deonte does have the ability to contribute some of Naders off. game too. DB will be able to take his time and gain confidence since he won't be required to start once eligible, unlike McKay. I don't see a bumpy transition as he gets acclimated.

McKay didn't start until the second game of February, his 13th game in an ISU uniform.

I don't know what you of these people are smoking.. I loved hogue his Junior year. He had his moments his senior year but I don't think he played any near to the level he playing at the end of his junior year. I thought he was somewhat of a disappointment in his last year. I'll take this years Nader over last years Hogue any day.

Agreed. Hogue's best asset was his tenacity on the glass. 4 fewer rebounds per game last season was a huge dropoff. He was able to shoot the ball well from outside, but that's not where we needed him.

Too early to tell. We won't find the weakness until our first loss/losses this year.

Oh I think Nader's a better ball player. I just don't think he'll average as many rebounds as Hogue.

Now if I'm in a bar fight, I'll probably pick Hogue to back me up :twitcy:

Hogue only averaged 4.9 reb/gm last season. That's not a bar that's out of bounds for Nader.

Yeah all is his 4.9 rebounds? He really didn't rebound that great last year. Nader is taller and longer and is doing fine on the boards this year.

Ya 5 rebounds a game sucks for a 6'6'' 3 man going against 6'10'' chumps. Rolling my eyes as hard as possible right now.

That may be true, but the fact is his rebounding production dropped off dramatically (due likely in part to addition of McKay) between his junior/senior year and 5 boards a game ia not hard to replace with Nader. Not saying Hogue sucks or didn't outperform expectations at his size, but it is what it is...

Not that I'm expecting it to continue in conference play but right now Thomas is picking up those 5 boards a game we lost when Dustin left.
