Last years team vs this years

NDSU isn't a bad team by any means. Good coach and system. What I like about this team so far is they tend to get better in the last 5-10 minutes and take control. That is what a veteran team should do.

Agree to disagree. He has shot well one game, Chattanooga (6-9 from 3). But has had 3 games where he went 1-9, 2-9 and 1-8 from 3.

And while is driving is a nice surprise, he is still only shooting 44% from 2 -- second worst on the team.
You need to learn how to read statistics. That 44% number is his overall shooting percentage, which is definitely not second worst on the team. He shoots almost 74% from 2 point range. The reason that number is so high is because he's an outside shooter that has developed the ability to drive efficiently. We are six games into the season so his outside shooting percentage will come up. My guess is it'll be closer to 40% from outside by the end of the year which is pretty darn good.

So is Cyclone1985 going to come and admit he was flat out wrong?

I will say, though, as much as I absolutely love Naz, he is the most interchangeable player in our starting 5 where we don't drop off much when putting Matt or Hallice in that place, so his struggles aren't as big of a deal as opposed to if Nader or McKay were (I didn't say Monte or Georges because it would be glaringly obvious if they're struggling).

"Enough about Kansas; let's talk about Iowa State. How do you think ISU will match up with Kansas?"

Well if the Beakers wouldn't have paid off the NCAA to get CD eligible, I think we could have dominated them, now I think we'll just beat them.:)

Biggest thing I've noticed is a change in attitude. These guys aren't the wide eyed new kid at the top anymore. They play with passion and lay it all out there. Nader is a future draft pick if he can continue his performances all season. Defense is at least twice as good as it was before as well. I think they have potential but we will really miss Hogue on the boards this year. He was one of those guys that could really make up for our height disadvantage.

I believe this years team plays longer and more sustained defense. This years team is so much fun to watch. I loved last years team, but this years team plays better defense.
No one has mentioned the shorter shot clock. We don't have to defend as long. That may have helped us maintain our intensity on defense as much as anything.

This years team seems to not be as "smooth" on offense but we are only 6 games in. They are still attacking the basket and getting good looks and the defense is definitely improved. I love the experience and leadership of all the starters. This team is talented and mentally tough.

We are getting to the free throw line considerably less this season. 21 last year vs. 15 now. Opponents at 14 both years.

The benchmark of making more free throws than your opponent attempts. Did that last year, not close so far this year.

Yeah all is his 4.9 rebounds? He really didn't rebound that great last year. Nader is taller and longer and is doing fine on the boards this year.

The NDSU game reminded me of the Kane team that always played like they knew they were going to win even when close to a lesser team deep in the second half.

In terms of rate, our Free Throw rate (FTA/FGA) was 36.5. This year so far it is 23. That is a huge drop, especially considering the consensus was that there would be many more fouls called this year.

Yep I agree.

I don't see as much bi-polar tendencies as we seemed to have last year. Our team could go on 20-2 runs, but would give up 20-2 runs almost as often.

Last year we played to the energy level of our arena, and this year we seem much more consistent and play with more urgency.

It could just be in my head, but it certainly appears that way.

So far, through a couple of exhibitions/scrimmages and 6 real games.........I think this team is still trying to figure things out.

Last year's team basically just tried to outscore the other team.......defense be damned except when it was convenient, more or less. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. When the shots were not falling.......they struggled.

This team seems, so far at least, seems to be a little less exciting offensively, but definitely more assertive and attentive on defense.......although it still drives me nuts with some of the easy bunnies they give up, including against NDSU.

My concerns with this team so far is mainly on the offensive side. Three point shooting and free throw shooting both bother me. There seems to be little consistency there.......except that McKay is not very good at free throws and really needs some coaching or something to help him with that. I think the three point shooting will come around as the season goes on......it needs to because it opens up the inside for the alley oops, the drives, and a lot of what Georges and McKay can do down low.

I think a lot of it probably has to do with adjusting to a new coach. Yeah, the offense is basically the same idea, but we don't always see the spreading of the floor, the crisp and extra passing, and the assists on baskets that we have become used to seeing.

Hopefully, the offense will get back to what we are used to, and the defense will be improved from what it has been in past years. If that happens........this team can go a long ways this year.

I think they are the only team that has a slim chance of stopping our undefeàted regular season.

Way too early to say, but based on what we've seen so far this year's team appears to have better chemistry and more defined roles for guys like Nader and Thomas. Adding Burton to the mix on the fly in a couple weeks is going to be an interesting challenge for Prohm. Someone's going to lose minutes and not be too happy about it.

From what I've seen, this team seems to know that you need to keep your foot on the other team's throat when you're ahead a little better than in the past. The defense is a bit more aggressive and doesn't seem to have as many letdowns in effort. McKat was good on the boards last year but is absolutely ridiculous this year.

I don't want to go through the whole thread but has anybody mentioned that we're really missing Edozie?

Nader has played great offensively but he still gets lost on defense, mostly when he's asked to guard the perimeter. It makes sense seeing that last year BDJ and Hogue were more likely to guard a wing, so this is basically a new role for him. He's gotten much better since the Colorado game at rotating, playing help D and closing out on shooters. If Burton can play solid D, he and Nader will be really good compliments to each others game. That's pretty knitpicky but other than no one being a consistent 3pt shooter, that's about the only weakness we've shown.

the biggest positives this year is that Georges doesn't settle for 3pt shots as often and other than the NDSU game, Naz has been much more aggressive taking guys off the dribble. This will be the biggest factor when Iowa comes to town next week, the Hawks want us to chuck threes, not because we can't shoot but because they know they can't guard off the dribble.

The biggest thing we miss about Hogue is that on the defensive end,he was as versatile as Georges is on offense. DH could guard the 2-4 positions every night, Nader and Georges are versatile on offense but not on defense. Neither guard the wing very well.

This team is missing a "mucker". (Hogue)
A guy who comes in and really ****s **** up. Grabs boards, Ds you up. Rips boards and drop kicks you in the ******* throat for being in HIS space. Maybe Burton will be that guy.
