I don't think a kneel would take 6 seconds off the clock, but still, kneel and punt with 10-15 seconds left if you have to.

Clock doesnt continue to run after 4th down.

Yep, but still, even if we punt, just line drive punt it, let it dribble and let our guys down it. KSU likely has drive 70-80 yards in 30 seconds or less on the clock and no timeouts. I like our D in that situation, though with some of the schemes Wally was calling today, who knows if we could have even stopped them there, lol.

I can see it both ways. If we kneel and punt it and KSU wins on a Hail Mary, fans are ****** because we went too conservative and gave the game away. If we try to run it and fumble it fans are ****** because we had the game in hand and gave it away on a stupid play call.

I'd probably go with the kneel down and punt strategy, but that's just because I don't think KSU had that much success throwing it deep on us all day. Most of their big gainers were on short-intermediate throws or run plays, and long 5 minute+ drives. Make them show they can get big chunk yardage against you instead of plodding along, because I bet they couldn't.

You may want to relook at that since you are wrong...about 20 seconds wrong.

Even if you run it down to zero which you cant...you aren't getting the clock that low. Closer to 20 seconds.

Evidently it isn't as easy to figure out as some of you think.

Please illustrate how far I am off then. K-State stats and ESPN stats say we started drive with 1:31 left on clock. 4 second play, KSU Timeout, 4 second play, 39 second playclock run off, 4 second play, end of game (or take a kneel down on 4th down if need be if game clock is under 5 seconds)

If we knee and lose in OT this thread is about not trying to drive down the field (2010 Nebraska).... either way it's time to clean house, bring in sombody while we have some skill players to build with

very true. Bottom line it never should have gotten to either of the possible situations.

Here is a better breakdown-

ISU gets the ball with 1:31 left

1st down (1:31)
ISU knees ball
2 seconds run off the game clock, KSU gets a timeout

2nd down (1:29)
ISU knees the ball
2 seconds run off the game clock, plus 39 seconds of play clock (total of 41 seconds)

3rd down (0:48)
ISU knees the ball
2 seconds run off the game clock, plus 40 seconds of play clock (total of 42 seconds)

Delay of game

4th down (0:06)
ISU punts

There's always a 1 or 2 second delay between when the ball is re-set and the play clock starts. Worst case, you're punting with under 10 seconds. They are attempting to score a touchdown from their end of the field with under 10 seconds left. What makes it even worse was the brain dead sequence where Lanning fumbled. What the hell was that all about? Two botched game management situations in a row.

How is he wrong? KSU had only one timeout. 40 second runoff twice after second and third down = 1:20. 5 seconds x 3 plays = 15. 1:35.

I like Paul Rhoades. I like his spirit and enthusiasm but that was the worst coaching I've seen in a college football game.

Why only a 2 second runoff? Who says the qb can't take 3 or 4 steps back and then kneel?
