Anyone else disgusted with the officials?

Well when you lead the nation in least number of fouls called and then have that garbage happen. It's going to come up in discussion.

The officiating can not favor one side or the other and still totally suck. This is what's wrong with ref apologists, they think keeping the fouls evened up is the refs doing their job properly.

Yep. Being called for about the same number of fouls does not automatically mean the game is being called evenly. Especially when one team uses a full court press and an aggressive defense and the other team doesn't.

Have you looked at the stats of West Virginia's opponents? http://statsheet.com/mcb/teams/west-virginia/game_stats Only three of them committed LESS than 20 fouls in their games against WVU. Drawing fouls is a skill that is taught by Huggins. The relentless pressure applied by WVU results in putting opponents into positions where they are chasing, trying to recover and scrambling, which leads to a dramatic increase in fouls called against them. It wasn't bad reffing. It was uncharacteristic play, which is what WVU's style forces you into. ISU has good enough players off the bench and shot well enough that they were able to still win despite the foul trouble they were forced into. I would think that ISU fans, fans of a team that typically IS the more aggressive team that forces opponents into fouling a bunch, would understand this. What happened to you is what you normally do to other teams.

This is printed after almost every game that ISU plays and definitely after every game ISU plays against an aggressive defense. I only saw the second half once I got home from Lawrence. Once I saw that Georges, Hogue and Morris all had four fouls the first thing that went through my head was "If ISU loses this game their fans are going to freak out about the refs". It's a pretty consistent thing.

This is rich coming from the fan of a school which is typically highly favored by the refs.

Ugh. At some point you'll learn that different play styles result in different foul counts. And ISU leads the Big 12 in foul disparity by the way.

Saw this on Twitter this morning and laughed:
@CMAnderson247: Bob Huggins alluding to missed calls by refs, says Devin Williams kept getting his goggles knocked off. "I don’t think he hit himself."

Haven't read through the whole thread yet, but about Monte's 5 fouls. Were a couple of them questionable, at best? Absolutely. At least 2 of them were terrible calls. That said, he also got away with one that turned a sure basket by WVU into a fast break dunk for McKay.

I was just as confused with some of the calls as anyone else. That play, although it was in out favor, was one of the most confusing.

I assume that WVU fans are griping about the refs just like people here are. They probably have a long list of missed calls just like every fan base of every team that ever plays a tight game.

Comparing what other teams have done against WVU in terms of fouls is not a good indicator of what did/should happen against ISU. This ISU team just does not foul a lot. ISU did do some fouling, there is no question about that. The issue ISU fans have is that WVU was pushing, shoving, and grabbing all the way down court on the press and under the basket without being called for it. Add to that some absolute phantom fouls that Staten got, and fans get upset. I think the biggest factor in this is that Huggins is a master at working the officials, while Fred is more concerned about coaching during the game.

I wouldn't expect a KU fan to understand, as we have seen first hand how the officials work for KU for years.

This ISU team "doesn't foul a lot" because they played a half dozen games against terrible teams so they didn't face any pressure to foul. Coincidence that the games where ISU has committed the most fouls were @WVU, vs. South Carolina, vs. Maryland and vs. Arkansas?!? It's not me that's having a hard time understanding this. Fans HATE watching their teams play against teams like WVU. I can guarantee that every opponent of WVU this year will have people griping about all the fouls called against them and all the fouls that WVU got away with. Same with South Carolina and Arkansas. Face it, fans are overly sensitive and like to gripe about the refs. It's practically it's own hobby these days.

Just call it like I see it in the 1-2 game a year where the officiating clearly decides the game (or makes it close like tonight). Maryland and South Carolina roughed us up too...but the officiating had nothing to do with those losses.

Had we lost tonight would anyone really have remotely thought WVU looked like the better team? 5 on 8 out there, huge win given that hurdle to clear.

other than the fact that Maryland got away with about 143 moving picks. A lot of them resulting in open three looks.

Can we use this thread to talk about hating refs instead of creating one after every single game? But I do agree with what you are saying, because there were a ton of questionable calls made or not made yesterday.

Lowly Texas Tech was in the double bonus with 9 minutes left in the first half yesterday. 26 fouls called against the two teams in the first half. Ridiculous, unwatchable basketball. If they want to know how to increase scoring in college basketball they should stop calling all the pointless ticky tack fouls which do nothing but reset the shot clock and let a team burn more time standing around waiting for the next whistle. The refs are out of control with their whistles these first few games of Big 12 play. CLEARLY there has been some type of communication sent down to the Big 12 refs to call everything even remotely resembling a foul. Driving home from the KU game I was listening to the Texas game and then the OU game and they both were having the same problem. TOO MUCH.

I don't know how you could say that there has been communciation sent down to the Big12 refs to call fouls at the slightest hint of contact. Very start of our game , West Virginia mugged Bryce trying to post up for 15 seconds and nothing called. Until he tried to push back and of course that was called. WV got away with fouling multiple times because why?....just cuz they're a pressing team or coached by Huggins so now we don't really have a basketball game? I don't think WV playing in Hilton will have any change on the fouling next time if crews are going to let it happen all year.

Was Limpy the guy with Hok vanity plates?

yes he was. From Orange City. I've watched him officiate in high school and he's no different today. Arrogant, and lazy. He rarely moves except to change ends of floors.

For me, it's hard to imagine how the Big 12 office can send an Iowa native half way across the country to officiate an Iowa team? Huggy must have known he's an anti-homer and as a result requested him. Someone else said they cringe when he walks on the floor. That's how I feel to. Yuck

Last year the Big12 called games tighter at the beginning of league play and gradually loosened its iron grip as the season went on. I expect to see the same this year too.

Goddang this is a HUGE win for our Cyclones. Get Baylor and KU and were even more settled in the drivers seat.

I remember at least a half dozen moving screens by ISU last night that didn't get called and I only saw some of the second half. It is probably the least made call in college basketball. Come to think of it, I don't even remember the last time I saw a moving screen called in any college game I have watched.
