I figured that was the case. I should have just said no and continued walking. But my thought was does Ames PD have nothing better to do than stopping an individual and running their ID? Sad.

I wouldn't have continued to walk. I would have asked the officer "Am I free to go?". Because if you just walk away, he might try to pin something on you.

Yeah good point. I've graduated anyways so I probably won't run into this issue again but who knows. I plan on going to Ames tomorrow and it sounds like Ames PD is going to be a **** about everything.

This thread shows a big part of the problem.

Police didn't do anything wrong last night and there was still a riot. People say don't cancel VEISHEA and just have the police step up enforcement to stop problems to prevent a riot. Police step up enforcement and now people talk about rioting because the police are being too mean.

Cancel VEISHEA forever and be done with it. It has become a disgrace.

It sounds like they did do something wrong, by breaking up a big party and once again herding it down to welch. That doesnt excuse the actions of the idiots in the crowd but its a mistake that's been made before and you'd think the police wouldnt be dumb enough to repeat the mistake... but... yet they still are.

Am I understanding this correctly? Are they trying to bust someone for having Iowa plates on a VIN not registered in Iowa? You would think Ames PD would have bigger fish to fry tonight.

That sounds like someone's drunk hunting.

It later came on the scanner that the person just bought the care today so that's why the VIN wasn't coming up as Iowa. But yeah it sounds like Ames PD is doing whatever they can to nail people tonight. Looking for drunk drivers is fine however.

Going to bed. It's getting old just listening to the cops try to find whatever minor thing they can and turn it into a big deal.

Which is also something to keep in mind when people bring up how many arrests there are every year at veishea.

Well the scanner got really quiet so that's good. It sounds like tonight was very tame except for the police trying to nail little things on people. Hopefully the rest of the weekend is major incident free so next years VEISHEA may be salvaged in some way.

snitches get stitches, i hope this kid gets busted for turning in his roommate/friend. What a tool!
He told the dispatcher he doesn't want the Police to tell the group it was him. The group will know its him..I guarantee it.

They broke up the harmless house party that led to the riot last night!

Didn't they break up another big house party tonight and nothing happened? Cops breaking up the party isn't the problem; it's morons who choose to use "mean popo" as a reason to rebel. They clearly had the self control to not do that tonight. There's no reason they can't accomplish that on any given night. When they fail to do so, it's by choice.

You all need to stop ******** about the cops. Some of the minor things they bust for are stupid, but of course they are gunna bust up parties that get too big. Many of the parties, including the party that led to the mobs last night, are called in by one of the house residents. What are you gunna do? Ignore them?

They can't just allow house parties to get bigger & bigger. That poses just as many dangers to students as an actual riot.

My god this board is bi-polar. Last night y'all were praising the actions of the cops, now suddenly it's a police state because they are doing their job?

Climb off the police hate train, and realize that they are a) under an insane amount of pressure and b) acting on orders from on high to crack down incredibly hard lest the national guard gets called.

Also, to the guy who said if there is another riot he is going to watch... *facepalm*

I got searched by Ames police twice for no reason, both times I was sober. Once I was on the phone outside Helser, the 2nd time I was walking home from the library. Neither time did it seem like an opption and both times the guy was too harsh.

Unless you consented to have them search you OR they had probably cause that you were committing a crime, it sounds like your rights were violated.
