Not sure how I missed this Pioneer Press award to Bryanna Fernstrom as their Minnesota player of the year.

Looking forward to seeing her at the post next year. A post that can defend, rebound, play defense and shoot the three is just what the team needs after a year without a true post player.

But she said her true passion is on the other end of the court. Stopping an opposing post or blocking shots, she said, is sometimes more exhilarating than scoring.
During the Mississippi 8 Conference season, opposing post players averaged 4.5 points against her, and no player scored more than 13.

Good article and it is going to lots of fun to watch her play for the Cyclones the next 4 years. She will be on campus in just over 60 days.

I really liked how she assessed her own game. She is extremely bright in her understanding of basketball. This is going to be an extremely interesting team, if we can keep all the pieces in place.

There is lots to like about this player, but what stood out to me was the comment about how good her hands are. We can certainly appreciate a big who can catch the ball, especially when the pass inside is not a good one.

I like two things...she is physically much further along than most high school players and she reminds me of the first time we went north for a post... :)

Fernstrom was on the AP MN All-State Second Team. The first team has Iowa's MN Gatorade PLOY Coley, Marquette's Bell and Minnie's bound AP MN PLOY Wagner:

ESPN does not list her in the Top 100. Durr is rated 68th though ESPN suspect is here.

2nd team isn't bad considering who is on 1st team. Though, anyone know who Madison Guebert is?

Star Tribune first team all-metro. Only non-sneior picked.

MADISON GUEBERT
Eastview, junior guard
The 5-10 Guebert is not the typical shooting guard. Able to score from beyond the three-point line, she also has the quickness to create off the dribble and the strength to finish in the lane. At 22 points per game, she led the Lightning to a 28-1 record and the No. 1 seed in Class 4A.
