No it's on Messingham. He ran the ball every single first down until the end on the one play where Lenz couldn't haul it in. They stacked the box everytime, and Messingham never took advantage of it.
whyy would you not sell out on run on that last first down run by wvirgina?!?!?!?!?!? I am sick our our safties being irrelevant when it matters.
If Lenz hangs on to that TD, or Woody doesn't fumble, then you say Mess is a genius. It is all about execution. I agree we need to be more aggressive, on both sides of the ball. We take bend but don't break to the extreme on defense, and we need to loosen the reigns on offense and take some shots downfield. The field is so compressed because we never do anything but run or throw 3 yard passes.
Tough loss. The good news is there is a bowl coming up and the extra practice will also serve well. The future is bright.

This game is on a lot of people.....WV is a good team, no shame there. I would have liked to see our defensive backs a) cover a reciever B) tackel C) know situational football....our safties sure could have helped on run defense that last series, but they were irrelevant.
How they hell did we let them get the two point conversion?!?!? guys were there, just not making plays.
just typical Cyclone football I guess. We are whining about some spot on that last series when really we should have had two more players in there who can make a freaking tackle and help with run. If they bloop a td pass on a one on one cover, then you tip your hat....you don't just take it on run plays like a prison wife.
WV gets to go home now and beat the crap out of Kansas and get picked over us for a better bowl game now. (bummer)
What bowl game did you think we would make? The holiday bowl isn't on Jan 1st
