Time to lock up JP

How many would say Mack Brown is a good head coach? The fact is Vince Young won a national title for Mack Brown and Cam Newton won one for the Chiz. Only difference is Chiz's was bought and everybody knows it. Time will tell if Chiz is a good head coach, but he was a disaster for ISU.

Without a doubt, he has engineered the turnaround of Iowa State Athletics.

He's worth his weight in gold. Can JP get some love and a contract extension?

Best thing you can do is regularly send Vitamin C to Barry Alvarez throughout the long Wisconsin winters.

I don't see him leaving anytime soon. He's not a coach, he's an AD. I can see the appeal of leaving for a big program if your a coach, but outside of more money all going to a bigger school is going to get you as an AD is more stress and less job security. Plus, it's not like he's some single, young hotshot. He's got a family with young kids that he's not going to want to uproot, especially since one of them has it tough enough as it is. Have you seen Pollard's house in Ames? It's not like they're wanting for anything financially.

I just checked and gold is trading at $1,594.60 an oz. 16 oz in a pound so $25,513.60 a pound.

I would guess he weighs 200 lbs? (x 25,513.60)

You're saying he's only worth $5,102,720? If you meant per year I think you may be a little high but if you meant for a time period I'd say low.

:jimlad:

Out of curiosity what is his current contract?

JP has said he will leave when his work is done. He is getting closer but until they break ground for the SEZ and Hilton gets its upgrade, I don't think he will go anywhere.

Today we can be even more thankful that Auburn saved us from many more years of suffering under the Chiz and made it possible for CPR to come home.

Wow you are dense.

So he buys a great quarterback and surrounds himself with coaches who know what they are doing. That makes him a great coach? No.

Actually yes. His job is to manage his team and coaches. While the head coach does do some one on one coaching, most of the day to day stuff is handled by the position coaches and coordinators. You don't see CPR calling plays do you? He gives his input and overrides them yes but most of the offensive plays were called by Herman and defensive calls go to Wally. So yes...identifying excellent coordinators and putting them in a position to succeed is how good bosses operate. I don't like him for how he handled ISU but you can't say he isn't a good coach.

Things happen for a reason though. You think that win against Okie State would have felt so good if we hadn't been kicked in the nuts for so many years? You can't truly appreciate success until you've been face down in a gutter and know what failure feels like. Think we've had our fair share of that gutter.

Such a terrible coach he's been an extremely successful coordinator at Texas and Auburn and taken Auburn to a national title as a head coach. That's turible.

You can think of him what you wish, I don't think hes a good coach.

Not trying to be a debbie-downer here but ISU's football program hasn't won more than 6 games in the regular season and the basketball program hasn't been to the NCAA Tournament under Pollard's watch. I don't care about wrestling, women's hoops, or any of the other programs. They don't matter to me and they don't matter to very many people across the country.

I don't particularly care how much revenue has been generated. I don't get to see a penny of that. I care about success on the field. That hasn't happened. In fact, ISU was better in the revenue sports under BVD.

To me, he's been a miserable failure as an AD because he's hired 4 coaches in the sports that matter. 2 of them were failures (Chizik, McDermott). 1 of them seems like he's likely going to be a failure (Hoiberg). And the other has a losing record (though I do realize that is a misleading stat).

In all likelihood, Rhoads won't come close to living up to that contract. It's just the way it is. We don't have the resources to win in football. That's not me having a loser mentality. It's reality. Let's face it, we are lucky we weren't 2-10 or 3-9 this year. A few bounces of the ball the other way and we would have been. And there have been far too many blowout losses to justify this contract.

I just don't see it, guys. I love Coach Rhoads. I hope he's here for 20 years. But I think regular 6-6 and 7-5's is all we can expect. Is that worth $2 million per year over 10 years?

I guess I don't understand all the love for Pollard. Maybe I'm too much of a realist. Like I said, I just don't care about how much revenue ISU is generating. As long as they have enough to keep Hilton and The Jack looking good, I don't care. The money isn't going to us. You guys realize that, right? Win football and basketball games. That's what I care about. Under Pollard, they have not been. Sorry, but it's the truth.

IcSuU- I'll ask it again, do you think Mack Brown is a good head coach? How do you think he'd do at ISU with much lesser talent than he has at Texas? How do you think the Chiz would have done at ISU had he stayed? We know what he did do while he was here and he was awful. Auburn bought a qb that has become an instant star in the NFL during his rookie season. I doubt there are many bcs conference coaches that wouldn't have won a national title with Cam at the helm. We know Chiz will have good talent at Auburn, but let's see how he does the next few years without Cam before calling him a good coach. If he loses 4-5 games a year at Auburn, he won't last long.

You could say the same thing about any coach. Talent is always incredibly important.

Do you think Urban Meyer would win at ISU or similar programs? I don't. That's not to say Urban isn't a good coach, but there's a reason the alleged "best coaches" in the country just so happen to coach programs that consistently recruit 4 and 5-star talent. Hmm....I wonder why that is!!

I am calling you a troll.

Move on people.

PAY JP!

We need to lock him down.

Even if you think he had a hiring "miss", he's improved facilities, increased donations, and made some amazing hires too.
